I read a topic where someone setup scan probes 1.6 au below a station and above. My question is, if there was no warpable objects on the other side of the station, how did this player travel 1.6au? I know I can set up a ship with mwd and multiple mwd with overdirve injectors, lighteners and I can study up skills but that seems to max out at 400km/s. Even at this speed, traveling even 1au would take quite some time. Is there any other way to move faster to get au's of travel? Out to "Snarfle the Garthog!" |

I am sorry not to answer your question, but could you tell me how you would get a ship go 400km/s?

Well, 1 AU can be done in a measly 260 hours at about 16 km/s. That's just barely 11 days.
It's a bit easier though to just use observator probes to get directional warpable bookmarks and then navigate through the system that way. Or if the system itself has handy off-plane objects you can even use those to just make direction bms.

12AU scan probes will drop you around 1.5au from a target, so place some 12 AUs around a friendly ship during some dead time and scan it a few times to get spots around 1.5AU away from the station. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

**** easy to do that :P
just warp to the station from somewhere and make a bookmark during flight at 1,5 AU
easy as pie

there are allways objects u can find to get the right angle on the station and then warp to the station from that BM and make a new one at 1,5 AU or whatever....

I do not know how to get the 400km/s, it was posted. Also, someone posted that multiple MWD was possible, but I haven't tried it since I need sustained speed and a setup like that would use too much cap. I am also not trying to do this near a station, I am heading into space with no apparant warpable object anywhere in system except behind me. I don't know if scan probes will help since there are no known objects ahead. What I need is a way to warp to NOTHING, or a way to go REALLY, REALLY fast. Out to "Snarfle the Garthog!" |

Multiply your estimate by ~10 and you are correct. I guess you missed a zero on your distance.

Check the date of that post, since RMR it has been impossible to fit multiple MWD's to a ship....

The fastest ships can reach around 8 km/s. 1 AU = 1.5x10^8 km
This translates to ~217 days.
Have fun . . .

A single deep space probe scanning for your own type of ship will give you some nice and random spots in the middle of nowhere. ----------------------------------------------- CRY HAVOC! IIRC with max everything and high grade snakes/gistii mwd a crusader can do 16km/s

he had bm's >1.6 ontop and above the station.
unless the gates are off the z-axis on that sol. Some moons/belts can appear "almost" below the station, but 1.6 away is too far for that.
Classic way of getting such spots in empire is through missions. They tend to send you 10+ au above/below planets.
Otherwise, observator probes, but their random results may force you to repeat your scans a lot of times to get good ontop/above spots.

150 000 000 000 / 16 000 = 9375000 seconds -> 2604 hours -> 108 and a half days
Well yeah, I was still way off. Woops. Fastest ships about are at least 16km/s though (sustainable, since you don't need to remain in the command ships grid).

multiple MWD's USED to be possible. That was changed a year or 2 ago though. Ah... the days of rifters going 100k per second and firing cruise missiles.

gang mods work system-wide, not restricted to grid.
