if you start training a skill that is going to take for example 24Hrs, then 12Hrs in decide you need to do something else, can you stop it, do the other skill then start it again? Will it still have 12Hrs or will it start again?

Depends. If you begin a new skill, your progress in the previous skill will be saved. BUT, if you ABORT the first skill before beginning the new skill, you'll lose the progress you've made (ie, those 12 hours).

Edited by: Misato Warwick on 08/10/2003 08:55:03 just choose the other skill and click on train. then click on "ok" at the warning and the new one starts training. the trainingtime on the other skill will stay. so in your example 12 hours...
like bashier said, dont click on abort. just train any skill you want...

Edited by: GM Abraxas on 08/10/2003 23:55:47 Both me and GM Xhagen have been testing this extensively for a while now.
If you "abort" a skill, you should keep the points. They'll drop to the original value for about a second, then jump back up.
I've spent a long time going through skill logs, for all kinds of cases, and I've never seen someone abort a skill and have their points go back to where they were at the beginning of each session.
Zanthos, just do whatever. Switch skills, abort, what have you. You'll be fine.
As for anyone who claims that the skill points will disappear: Petition this (in a while ... see below). They're not supposed to disappear. If they do, we need to find out about it. Since our skill logs are inadequate right now we can't do very much, but give it a couple of weeks. Then, if you see a skill drop the accumulated points, send in an "other" petition. Make sure to include the skill points you thought you'd made. We need those to be able to calculate if you could really have made that amount in the time you were training, and not just the amount you ended up with.

I've never lost skill points through aborting.
One question though Abraxas: if this is the way its meant to be, then why does a dialogue pop up saying "You'll lose points if you abort training"?

Rodj: I believe that dialogue is there because noone bothered to change it from the beta, when it actually had a meaning and we DID lose skill points when switching skills.

well actully I have lost skill points several times, not all the time I change skills but it has happened many times since 2 patches ago, most I took notice of was 24k+ skill points and several times over 10k, didnt bother to petition since I cant prove it and I dont know how to log it, I just told all my friends to take care when deciding to switch skills.

I actually tried this out with an alt char, I had him start training and aborted right away. He kept the 1 point he gained in the time it took me to click train and then abort training. |

I've done this several times and every time it set my points back to it's orginal prior to trining. Once 2 days into Fridate level 4 by accident, which you can imagine how ****ed I was. =(
