Edited by: Evesham on 03/08/2006 12:17:22 Only been on the game for 6 days and have realised that I would like to be an Empire builder (As do most I suppose) Anyway I have read the Manufacturing Guide and have a few of questions 1 How long does it take before I could build some missiles 2 How easy is it really
My interpretation of the guide is that I train up the skills listed to the levels it says and Rent a Factory B4 I could even start to build stuff and then I have to research the Blueprint, etc
Can I do the research etc whilst I am training the skills and running missions to get minerals and stuff.
If anyone has a link to a help guide for building stuff that tells you exactly how to started in a step by step guide that would fab
Sorry for the big post

In answer to your questions first of all:
1. As soon as you get level 1 Industry and a BPO you can start. It just becomes more profitable as you get more skills (you may find with base skills it is near impossible to make a profit on your stock of missiles).
2. Easy as you make it for yourself. Just do you homeqwork on what sells locally using the arket history function and looking into the mission running centres of your region/types of damage best against local rats. That way you will be able to churn out a product that people will want in quantity at competitive prices :).
Also, you can research as soon as you get Science 1, it is just a more effecient and less costly practice when you get higher skills. Also ME slots are hard to coem by in empire, though not impossible as many will tell you.
Drop us a line in the FrontierRecruit channel, got a few pro manufacturers who can give you a hand, no strings and no pushy recruitment policy!
Good luck.
BTW you going independant and starting yor own corp or soloing?

Edited by: Haruka Watanabe on 03/08/2006 14:12:22 You may also find that it would be easier to try to make a deal with a bigger corp to supply them with ammo, as my corporation, the Flock of Cats (now recruiting! check out http://www.flockofcats.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4 for details) is in the process of doing. One of the biggest problems with manufacturing can be material costs, and one way to minimize those is to mine and perfectly refine your own. Of course, you might do the economics and find out you come out ahead buying them directly, but whatever. It takes a bit of skills and faction grinding to get perfect refining, and we're still working on it, but after you or your corp can supply all your own minerals, you can churn out stuff much faster.
Basically manufacturing is made much easier in a corp, so that's what we're currently trying to do. Each person specializes and that way you don't have to do it all yourself, or pay other people premiums.

Cheers
But not sure what you mean by ME slots are hard to come by in Empire. Also I guess I should just do a production experiment as its probably the best way to learn. I was going to solo my Empire Building :) at 1st but I am already a member of a corp (only for 2 days so not sure what they ot it are like but they are helpful) Will drop you a line ingame later if you are on.
So tonights plan is to buy some BPs and watch the money come rolling in (well maybe flying out more like )

The way I figured out the in's and outs and such was to buy a small ammo BPO or two. Hybrid, projectile, whatever. Personally I bought a tungsten and an antimatter.
These are relatively cheap and will allow you to play with research and production. Learn how to figure your profit margin and also time to research what items are selling in your region.
hit me up in game if you want to chat about it more and maybe I can help lead you along also. I'm also a solo player so understand some of the problems this can cause.

Edited by: Fracking Beach on 11/08/2006 07:46:36 I think GC13's guide is a valuable resource for starting industrialists. Check out this URL:

Also, this thread below should be read by all new people doing research, so they don't go overboard with the research bit:

As a builder I can say that the most important thing you can do is to keep track on what the cost are and so you can know your profit.
I have seen so many sell items so cheap that they GOT to loose on it. Why ? well I got Production Efficiency lvl 5 and that means I can build perfect, only difference would be what ME (Material efficiency) the bpo I produce from have. Also alot of people thinks that higher ME means best, to be honest on a ship anyway anything above ME 16 is a waste of time at research.
Basically to become a good producer means you need Production efficiency to lvl 5, Industry as high as possible prefably lvl 5 but lvl 4 can do, Mass production to lvl 4 (lvl 5 if you want to produce at more than 5 slots), and advanced mass production to produce more than 6 slots. Supply chain management gives you a chance to put on remote buildingjobs.
In addition you would need various tradeskills also..
Just remember that even if you mine all the minerals yourself then it does not mean that it is all profit if you sell your ship/item... the time you spent mining is money and you got to see if you could maybe have made isk by selling the minerals rather than bought minerals and produced.
I have recently seen that mineralprices have risen, Trit and Pyerite and Mexallon have risen abit and makes for example a ship considerable more expensive or I can still sell them low but cut my profit.. it is a choise I got to do.
I produce for my corp and the corp made last month 200 million i profit (after all expenses where taken away) on just one bpo. Not bad for a newbie producer and I bought all minerals did not mine abit!!! ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |
