Hey all, For the last couple of years, I've been using a Logitech MX518 gaming mouse on my computer. Lately, it's been acting up and I feel I may need to replace it.
I've been pleased overall with it, but wondering about various options. As I am a technological idiot, I'm looking to you fine folks for some suggestions on replacing it. What is good, and more precisely what to avoid.
I've got about $50 to spend and eBay is my friend.
Can you help a fellow capsuleer out?

Logitech G400 should feel the same as what you have. I switched to Razor Deathadder from a Logi G5, and love the feel. Basically stay close to the same size mouse. Go to a store and actually hold the mouse if you are changing anything.

I second Hannibal's advice about holding it in a store.
I've had a few different mice over the years from different manufacturers and they've all had very different feels.
My current mouse is a Logitech G600 mmo mouse with the 12 buttons on the side. I really like having that many programmable buttons since it gives me options, but it's not for everyone. What kind of mouse or particular features are you looking for? |

I have 3 spare 518s. I love em so much i got extra.
Go here:- http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Performance-Optical-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B0007Z1M50
or
http://www.wackydot.com/logitech-mx518-8-button-usb-wired-mouse?___store=ca
The second one is cheaper by far.

What kind of mouse or particular features are you looking for? Up until now, I've literally only used right click/left click/Scroll wheel.
Underutilized, I know. My intent was to use the programmable buttons but I just never got around to it.
As far as "feel" goes, I'm not that worried about it. My home computer mouse is radically different from my work computer mouse and I have no troubles transitioning back and forth. To be fair though, my work computer mouse is about as basic as it can be.
The reason for starting this is that I've been watching eBay for a gaming mouse and was wondering what to avoid. Honestly, I really like the Logitech even though I've never used it to its capability.

I honestly loved most Logitech stuff until I got my hands on Razer gadgets and their customization firmwares/positioning, NWN2 and other weird old games with funky cameras and button mapping is a breeze with these guys, but then again most GOOD modern mice offer whole button function repositioning.
So my only not so pro but simple gaming advice is buy any kind of mice that offers this. Believe it or not sometimes having the ability to assign very specific macros or keyboard functions to a mice is what makes a game a bliss to play instead of boredom tedium ... cough (drones) cough ...
Cheers!

Edit: In case not obvious, don't use one. It makes you terrible at EVE. I speak from experience.

Pricing seems to be around your budget (50-70$) if you shop around a bit

I've been waiting for someone to tell me it's crap. It isnt, pain in the arse to open and clean but that aside its great,
the driver software for its great and auto updates, loads of room for different profiles for different games. much higher dpi than you will ever need,
odd thing to note but if you try one you will see what i mean, the distance you need to depress the left & right buttons to get them to click is almost nothing, not the pressure needed now, its odd, good but odd.
i like the shape of it and the numerical buttons have different angles on the edges so the 1,4,7 and 10 feel different from 2,5,8 and 11, so after a week or two you don't have to look at it to know where your thumb is. biggest gripe is those side buttons quickly acumulate crap in the gaps between them though and are fiddely to clean.
also, maby im just an idiot or something but i cant see a way of opening it without breaking it.
all told , great build quality, great ergonomics, great sotware, looks verry cool.
would strongly recommend for eve.

i just bought a sharkoon fireglider on amazon a few years ago, still have it. just get the matt black one, the glossy fire design is annoying in the summer with sweaty hands.
it's cheap, and works well enough for me. it's also huge as mice go, which is perfect for me.
only has the two thumb buttons on the left side, but since i have a g510s for my macro keys, it's not an issue for me.

Somthing about razer "my opinion" most overrated company on market, many craps products like pseudo pro 7 chanel headphones that are expensive and far away form other good stuf that cost less and offer better quality, many "double clics" mouses that cant be fixed by instaling new drivers, this |feature| may happens after few day of usage or few month after usage depend bad luck....
Since years and testing - using meny mouses imo #1 trusted are from Logitech most robust and solid, well i know that other mouses are good also some good from razer, depend luck of recived copy...
Sharkoon in general new player - company on market solid products. If it bleed we can kill it. |

Tip, dont look at xxxx thousends of DPI, for some players extremaly high dpi make gaming impossible or less fun, good gamers who do e-sport just got skills not dpi, 700-2000 dpi should be enough for average user.

As others have said, make sure you put your hand on it to get the feel.
I'm still using my razer naga but its very uncomfortable if you have big hands. |

I have a naga also, I have great difficulty using it due to my big meaty claws. The size is the only complaint I would have.

This. The G400 is the EXACT same mouse with different leg configuration, colour and one additional DPI step at the high end.

I've had my trusty Mx1000 for the last 15 years. So if you need a reliable mouse get Mx1000 but I think they stopped manufacturing these over 10 years ago.
Only thing that has been busted was the transformer for the desk-stand / re-charger but that was easy to fix. |
