Hello all, I'm currently training for command ships specifically for running L4 missions and was wondering if anyone else has tried the Eos and has a good setup.
I had in mind
Highs - The 3 armoured warefare command links, 1 Small tractor beam, 1 Drone link augumentor and 2 T2 125mm rail guns.
Mids - 1 T2 AB, 1 Fleeting Webber, 2 T2 Caps rechargers
Lows - 2 Centum Type A Med reppers, 64.something Exp Hardener, 1 28.3% Adaptive nano membrane and 1 Internal Forcefield array
For damage I mainly use T2 Wasps, I'll also have the Armoured warefare mindlink plugged in.
Anyone able to tell me if the tank will last / be enough for L4's? Will I finally be able to tank both the Gurista's and the Serpentis at the same time in Worlds Collide? (I'm very lazy and moving to 160km + while I kill the serpentis and Jack in a Boxing my drones is time consuming) Will losing the 40% dmg when using a Domi mean I'll no longer be able to kill the last BS in Vengence? Thoughts and suggestions welcome before I blow 1bill + on fittings.

You dont need all those command mods to tank for you ..
if your doing gurista missions you just need two hardners ..
fill in the remaining highs with guns ..

personally i'd shield tank it:
7x 250mm t2 gist L booser, dg amp, 2x invul, 1x something(comp or ab maybe, or even recharger) 3x mag stab II, 2x pduII (or pdu + dmg control)
pros: dmg, cheaper cons: not sustainable(though it is hard to sustain 2x mar and do some damage either), funny looking on gallente ship that has armor tanking bonus, but it sucks anyway.
Just below the line,it does outdamage astarte when you fit 7 guns and 2 dmg mods(maybe not with blasters). --------- Torture by ccp: pic |

Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't an Ishtar be a better choice vs the Eos? The Eos has some vastly improved fitting, and it has additional turret slots, but it also loses the juicy Ishtar drone bonus and it is harder to reach skillwise by far, which you could use to improve your drone skills even more.
Advantages Eos: - Far better fitting - Ability to fit command modules (only work in a group I think, so you would need an alt hauler or a mate along helping) - Over twice the turrets available (7 vs 3) - Nice armor rep bonus
Advantages Ishtar: - 50% more drone damage over the Eos - Lesser signature means far less damage taken
So I guess it boils down to if the additional turret slots outweigh the 50% drone damage bonus and if the rep bonus outweighs the signature improvements of the ishtar. I have a feeling that they won't.
Also, shield tanking may be good for certain NPCs, but I don't think it would be a good general setup unless you were abusing gistii boosters. Even then I don't know if it would be better than a faction armor setup except vs angels.

fitting tha warfare link modules is all fine and dandy for a gang setup, but when you are not ganged, nither the leadership skills or gang warefare link modules have any effect. (well i know the skills dont, only just got the link modules, and not tested them yet) i am also not sure you will need the cap rechargers, and on the mission note, i doubt you will be able to solo the L4 worlds collide (with no warp outs) with both sets aggroing you. less you use officer mods. though i am not a great user of drones, so you may do better tanking from afar, with drones popping the npc's ------#------ If my posts become incoherent, then it's probably cause my boss walked in, and i forgot where i was.

7 * 250mm Railgun II or 7 * Heavy Neutron Blaster II
1 * 10MN Afterburner II 4 * Cap Recharger II
1 * Medium Armor Repairer II 2 * Magnetic Field Stabilizer II 1 * Armor Kinetic Hardener II 1 * Armor Thermic Hardener II
This should work for the Worlds Collide. For other missions, you can swap hardeners of course. But still, I prefer the Astarte for running missions.

I use an eos for L4 missioning. and it's a GREAT ship. so i can give u some hints:
1) dont care who suggest shield tanking .. u have a +25% bonus armour repair ammount. If u dont use it i suggest u to use a ship with shield bonuses.
2) u dont need command mods.
my setup is:
low: 1x Corpum A-Type armour rep, 4x T2 hardeners med: 1x AB, 4x cap rechargers ( named or T2 if u can afford them) hi: 7x 250mm ( proto if u cannot use T2 of u hano not PG for a full rack of T2) or 6x 250mm and a drone link ( +20km drone range) if u fight npc that stay at long range.
I know that the faction repairer cost a lot but in my ship ( with armour rep bonus) it give me more repar/time that a large T2 on a BS.
With this setup i tank with no problem all missions that do kin/therm or emp/therm dammage. No risks at all. I simply reject other missions ( zazzmazat .. or what the hell they are named, and angels ...)

Edited by: Sammiel on 04/08/2006 16:23:02 I'm a bit confused as to why Eos. The damage spreadsheet lists a rack of 250's as beating the Ishtar out to 30km by a slim slim margin, and in return you consume over twice the ammo, can't fit a tractor or a drone link, and it requires massive amounts of SPs to even get to that point. With sub-optimal skills I think an Ishtar with 3x 200's actually wins. With 6 rails it certainly does. Also the last setup wouldn't win period because it has no damage mod. Blasters will blow the Ishtar out of the water, and T2 ammo widens the difference, but I don't think either of those are a good pick for mission running. Is the armor bonus worth that much then? It may be, I am not disputing that. It is a hefty 37.5% increase in armor/cap.
The actual comparison involved 7x 250's + 5 Ogre II's (Eos) vs 3x 200's + 5 Ogre II's (Ishtar). Both had a single damage mod and I believe the spreadsheet assumes maxed skills across the board.

- More cap - More cap regen - More armor - Cheaper
Give me a decent setup that can run dual med rep II and those 200mm II on that ishtar of yours.

Edited by: Sammiel on 04/08/2006 17:25:48 I did a long involved post, but the eve-o forums of course ate it. I'll summarize without specifying all the math. According to my calculations an Ishtar gets a peak recharge rate of 25 with level 4 engineering skills. An Eos gets 36. However the Eos rails eat up 9 more cap/s extra vs 3x 200's assuming maxed gunnery skills. So their cap recharge is the same.
Also, one could try dropping any pretense of using the highs on an Ishtar to run the following;
3x N-Type or faction hardeners or T2 if you want literally nothing in the highs 2x MAR2
3x Cap Recharger 2 1x AB2 1x Large Battery 2
Which I think gives a peak recharge of 35.3, enough to run both MARs indefinately. Your damage would suffer though, but it may be good enough. It doesn't cover whether the sig drop is > 37.5% rep rate however.
Cost is a reasonable point. Armor doesn't matter too much for mission running since if your tank is failing you need to get out anyhow. If you can't you will probably will die anyhow. I guess it may give a larger window of killing before warp out.

If you're currently having trouble in a dominix you should look at what some other people fit on theirs. I have no probs tanking both side in WC (in the first pocked i assume you mean? the warzone?
tried dual reppers?
There is a problem specific to that mission where drones will eventually get agro'd so its best if you're up close and personal so you can pull them back in before they start dying. And keep an eye on the red flashys cos if they turn yellow they are eyeing off your drones..
good luck |

Thanks for all the replies, certainly gives me something to think about.
I'll clear up a few of the points raised here
1. I have an alt in a transport ship for re-arming and holding loot so I don't need to continually dock during missions - Also means my leadership skills and command links should work pretty well
2. I Can't use T2 Medium Guns only T2 small, so 99% of dmg comes from T2 Drones
3. I currently have no issues running WC in my Domi tanking either group in the warzone, what I want to do is to tank both at the same time. Also losing the odd T2 wasp doesn't really bother me kill one bs and that replaces a lost drone. Although it does hurt when you need to restock, cost me 78mill for 186 of them a week ago
4. I have tried an Ishtar.... it went boom boom Not enough armour to cope when things go wrong
I note that the person useing a Eos currently only runs one type a repper, if thats enough to tank one group at a time would 2 of them be enough to tank both groups?
My current Domi is setup as a general tank and I can run any mission for any faction without having to refit hardeners. This is especially useful for kill the fired employee mission where dmg types change between the deadspace pocket.
Anyhow I still got a while to go before I can fly the mighty ship I have gathering dust in my hanger, I'll be sure to let you all know when I lose it trying to tank the entire warzone at the same time
