Hello my fellow pod pilots,
I've been away for some time now and am going through the whole isk grinding thing again. i'm intrested to know what sort of ticks I'd be looking to recieve with a fully speced thanny pilot and what i'd see from a tengu and a vindi individually.
i've been reading that an ishtar is the new ratting boat so any help on this would be amazing thanks in advance.

thanny ratting in guristas space, I suspect ixodes scapolarius is the sort of tick you're most likely to attract.
Some people do still carrier rat and KBs love their regular generous contributions. Others use a wide variety of ships, depending on their skills, wallets, and preferences. People do use tengu and vindis have had a bit of a resurgence recently, altho the afktar ishtar still seems to way predominate by numbers. The ishtar is not faster, in isk-per-picosend terms, but it's low maintenance to run.
I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder.

Anyway..
As the deer tick guy said, Ishtar is good because you can activate modules, orbit and then go do other stuff while your drones kill the things.
Carrier ratting is good, but probably not a good idea except in *very* secure space, it'd be better to have the fighters assigned to another ship that can also do good damage, like vindi/ishtar/etc. Probably not the best method unless you already have the pilot/ship though. |

blaster vindi is you're best bet for guristas forsaken hubs. A t2 ham tengu is also a beast as you can get 1k dp from it and it has the added bonus of being a cruiser so you can get out in a hurry. Sentry boats like domi, ishtar and carriers will also work but will get less per tick.
vindi and tengu get you 21-25 mil ticks and a domi/ishtar get you round 18.. well that was what I got. Go check out zaqq's vids.. he has some fits and advise on what he uses.
Getting in to the right position and and to be able to back to back sites is also important.

Yes, you are talking about stupid thanny pilots, I ratted in a thanny for a couple of years and never once got close to being caught, although now with the superceptor warpdrive I would use something else probably a HAM fit Tengu as I used to get over 1k dps from it.
Also it has the benefits of being a cruiser and the ability to warp out very quickly.

Following-up with my actual practices ....
I rat occasionally, in guristas space, and I use either:
- A vindicator when I can apply myself to the task. Much higher effort / maintenance but also higher isk-per-picosecond; or
- An Ishtar or two when I am multitasking a dozen other things, or just wanting to be low-maintenance. I just set them to AB-burn in a 70+ km orbit and have their drones do the business.
I also use a cruise missile equipped navy raven for long-range sniping, but that is mainly when I want to do special hellspawn work on sites (especially the Guristas Hidden Rally Point).
I do have carriers and I the skills but I am not satisfied that the benefit (if any) is justified by the hassle, but thatGÇÖs just me

I use sentries, some anoms have heavy drone aggresion and i don't like to lose my minions because that means i have to go to low or high to buy more. I use heavies often but not with webbing frigates on the field. |

I don't get how everyone is afktarring, because rats will switch to your drones and kill them if your not watching. If using sentries, the rats will close in and you have to keep moving to other places. Sentries suck at target selection too. |

Rats have diferent levels of AI and several factors affect their behavior.
I would assume the rats are less likely to switch away from the orbiting ship if they already can hit it with missiles than when they are low range.
Unless the heavies somehow survive the "lets switch to drones every time a fellow rat gets killed" that is quite common in missions on their own. |
