So I fly a Punisher. Been going with the bleeder set up of late. Though I havn't gotten a bunch of time to try it out yet.
All told though after the craft itself and then the kit, I pay about 2mil for it(assuming I just go for whatever is easiest to grab and not what is the cheapest). I also have no idea how to check for someones age in game. But I played for maybe a month, to several months off and am not back. I don't know whether it shows all those months I was gone on my "age" or not but regardless I have about 600,000 sp. So my clone costs about 32,000 ISK.
So my ship and pod being worth 2mil and some change. I find it amusing that I was just ransomed(by some gallenti in an inty) for 7mil ISK. When I replied that even if I wanted to pay I don't have that much ISK. At which point she(meaning the character I don't know about the player). Ups it to 15mill ISK, and starts a 30sec countdown. I just laugh and say "You better just get to the podding". Did I mention that she ransomed after she took out my ship? She did. So she was asking for(at the end) 15mil, so that I could save my 32k clone.
Show info on this character put her at a 2.0 security status. Are we talking about a newb pirate here? Maybe just a carebear that saw an opportunity? Anyways I laughed. And thought maybe some of you would enjoy this characters foolishness.
By and by I am not hard as nails pirate or PvPer either. But I done a little bit, and read around and know the general conventions do's and don'ts of the trade.

Sometimes people make mistakes.
I once try'd to ransom a Cormorant thinking it was a Ferox, for 10 mill. Partly because of lack of sleep, and partly because I had seen a Ferox there earlier.

Well I made him several months ago. During that time they didn't have any problems with peoples portraits. So while I may not have played this character as much as you have played yours, his image was evidently still kept around since then.

Same sort of thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I was puttering around in a low tech punisher seeing if I could kill evil sansha cruisers in a belt when a pirate thought he'd join the fun. Fair enough, it was low sec etc, what got me was he tried to ransom my ship for over 5 (yes, five) times the amount of isk the ship+myclone was worth.
If you're going to ransom, great, it could mean more cash for you and less loss for your victim....but do try to get a grip first

Well, if your character is that much older why would he think your clone cost 32k?

It indeed does sound amusing, he probably was just roleplaying a ransoming pirate or something.
After all, if one tries to make profit it probably doesn't make sense to ransom ships at all. I mean, it is sensible to kill everyone in hope of one of them carrying something valuable like implants or faction stuff.
Unless you ask for meaningless amounts of ISK (<1M), everyone who has crap stuff & ship will refuse to pay, while those with valuable stuff will gladly pay -> you gain few mils instead of hundreds of mils from an occasional jackpot loot.
So, ransom pods and ship&cargo scanned vehicles for profit. Or random ships for amusement value.

Pirates ask for more because its a win-win.
If the victim has no implants, they wouldn't get money either way.
If the victim does have implants, they'd get money either way.
So might as well ask for more.

Well as I said. I'm not sure how to check the age of a character. So I have no idea whether it shows the full time since I started the character or just the amount of time he's been active.
But yes, the only thing I can think of is A) She thought my character was a much older character. B) She was hoping I would have implants(Though do a lot of people run around with implants costing several more times than the ship they are in?). C)She was just dumb.

It will only show how long your character has been in the system. When you ransom you generalize. Ok, this character is this much old and has this possibility of implants. And you make your demand. Nothing surprising or bad in what she did.

You check someones age by looking at their Employment History. It says the date they joined the newb corp. -V- |

Some are better with asking for ransom than others.
Had an Enyo trying to ransom my Ferox for 20mil in Obe this morning. I can buy a new one for that price, not to mention that he couldn't take me out alone. Unfortunately I was also bugged and running short on time (had to go to work) so I gave up after 30 minutes of being warp scrambled by, and trying to shoot at someone over 2million Km's away and just logged.
Bye bye Ferox, but 20mil is way over priced.

when they ransom pods, they bag on you having implants, or an expensive clone. Unfortunatly the only thing they use to base price on is your age. So if you made a character afew years ago, but stop playing for a long time, you can get ransomed for 60 mil for your pod because they think you have 20 something mil skill points and probably +4s or so. Rather sad really when you only have 6 mil and no implants really, since the clone is only worth 1 mil at that point. In that situation I would just hafta laugh.

Yup, that's what I did. Wasn't even really that much of an inconvenience, because I already had another fully kitted ship already waiting for me :)

I'm not sure why the ransom went up, but if you are only in a punisher, the ship really isn't worth ransoming. A pirate may ask a lot for your pod (say 7 million), because you might have implants worth 4x that. It is impossible for us to tell. In those situations, were I you, just tell them no, and to get to podding, which is what you did.

If they pay without hesitation, shoot them down to find out what valuables they are carrying.

Id say that any character even 5 days old could have been given isk by a friend for a full rack of implants so he made a good call.
BTW under general forum there is a post about insta Bookmarks checkout my solution.
