So I just made the move down to nullsec with my corp. We have a station that we are renting (closed) so realistically there is no fear of player ganking atm.
I just became eligible to fly an exhumer. I have purchased a Skiff and started to boost the tank and fittings.
My question is can I handle the Blood belt rats in the system while mining. I went out today and noticed i get a mixture of cruisers and battlecruisers. I will be loading T2 drones (Hobs, not sure if this is right?). Can the drones handle the rats and allow myself to continue to mine. I do have support from corp gunners but I would feel more self reliant if I could hopefully deal with it myself.
Thanks for any advice or help you can provide. |

If you're just starting out in null, I highly recommend against flying a skiff right away. I'd recommend the t1 versions of any of the mining barges over going directly into a skiff, especially if you have support. Once you're used to being in null, then swap over to a skiff or a mack.
A skiff can be built to tank pretty much any spawn with t2 items and a faction small booster. |

I have had my tanked procurer out there. It can hold the BCs off for a bit but I eventually have to call in support or warp.
I really want to get to the point where I can tank in the procurer/skiff and have drones kill off the blood rats.
Can this be done with t2 drones? |

Are you moving (orbiting something) and have a proper tank fit? You should be able to tank a full spawn of any type in a t2 procurer. |

Skiff can easily hold itself against null belt rats assuming 3 things: your skills are not sh!t, your fit is not sh!t and your are not AFK.
Skiff can have 80 - 100k ehp with shield resists at 70-80% across the board, only complete zombie could lose it to few rats, even neuting BR should be a threat if there's 1 brain cell sitting in front of computer. Invalid signature format |

Orbiting the rock you're working on will mitigate a lot of damage from the bigger 'rats, especially in a Procurer/Skiff.
What's your current tank? A Procurer should easily be able to sport battleship like durability and a strong enough tank to handle belt rats, and a Skiff is even tougher. Do you also have battleship skills? What worked best for me was to find a belt that had a full compliment of rats. Clear it with a battleship. Dock. Come back with the exhumer. |

I'm not sure about it but I have a feeling that rats don't spawn as often in ore anoms as they are in belts. Although my 2 skiffs can just casually murder BS rats so maybe it's just my impression.
Clearing rats with BS is definitely safest way to get rid of them especially if your skiffs are for some reason not able to stand on their own. But it cuts into your mining and profits and we all know some people get cancer if they are not earning something every frakking second of their playtime... Invalid signature format |

I can usually take all rat spawns except 3 BS spawns in a hulk with light drones. Orbit a can or something and make sure your fit works. I actually fit for max yield and can still do it. When I have alts mining I never have issues with rats. My skills are good but make sure you max out your shields to defend against the primary damage you get from rats and practice I guess. A skiff should take care of anything.

Thank you for all the posts. I will make sure to pay attention to the fittings for optimal tank.
The question I am really asking can T2 drones (light) kill the rats in null sec, specifically up to BSs? |

Yes they can but you need skills higher than bare minimum for t2. Training supports to IV shouldn't take more than few days and it will pay off with less stress and drones returning alive to drone bay. Invalid signature format |

Lights may work, but remember that the Skiff has enough drone bandwidth for a full flight of mediums and a big enough drone bay for two full flights. They will be far more effective against BSs than lights will be so I'd definitely use those as soon as you can. CCP Falcon's thoughts on suicide ganking. This worries me somewhat. There's always a realistic fear of player ganking. Be constantly aware of it and watch your intel channels. Otherise, pain. |

I tend to use the t1 barge variants- their output is only slighly less than the t2 barges, and their cost is 1/10th of the price of a t2 barge. That way, I can mine in peace and not worry about welping an entire fleet of mackinaws :) |

no system in 0.0 is "closed". It's gonna take 1-2 days till your mining ops are spotted by neutrals and a cloaky cyno planted in your system, this will be the end if your mining operation. |
