As a budding concept artist, I absolutly love the artwork in Eve. What I was wondering is if ccp has ever considerd releasing an 'Art of Eve Online' book for purchase from their store? ----------- If I see one more 'FIRST!' post, I'm gonna snap. |

Even though the concept artists do have a website that features some of their work for CCP, this is not a bad idea.

Said it a few times already...
would happily pay up to 50 quid for a good, large scale book, including text, commentary, concept art, first renders and early models.

Yes, it's been suggested a few times before but I've never read any feedback from CCP on the idea - perhaps I missed it.
It's surprising to me, though, that this hasn't happened or even been mooted, what with E-ON, the CCG and all being in full swing. I do sub to E-ON but I'd be far keener on a good coffee table book with lots of shiny hires shots, concept art, schematics of the various ships, and all the rest. With some of the great stuff that the artists do and the panache with which they do it, I'd have thought producing such a publication would be a (relative) no-brainer.
As for the market, I'm sure that if E-ON can do well this book could do so too. It's fairly evident that there's a good proportion of players willing to spend a decent sum of money on a high quality product. I guess that's why they're playing Eve in the first place...

WoW has one. I know cause my uni mate plays it and he has the book. Dunno about the ś50 price but I'm sure it'll still be a good idea.

An EVE Artbook was being considered by the Devs over a year ago, there was even a Dev Blog about it.
I can guess that it never went through for at least 2 reasons. 1) They wanted to have more high quality art to put into it. At the moment EVE has tons of great concept art, but to fill a book of that size, there would have to be a lot of normal screen shots. 2) They were not sure there would be enough sales to justify printing the books. But after seeing how popular E-ON is, and the fact that CCP is now reaching out into other markets with the CCG and soon (next year maybe) will be releasing the first full paper EVE novel, I'm hoping the possibility of an EVE artbook will come back to the discussion table.
Perhaps after Kali is released there will be more material and a new initiative to get this done.

With the CCG artwork and the back catalogue of artwork over the years, i believe an artbook is entirely do-able.... thus i command CCP to do it, and not charge me too much to buy it :) Looking for a corp?

Ah, I heard that mentioned somewhere, but must have missed it at the time - thanks for the link.
I guess there can't have been *that* great a response on E-O to the blog - I'm sure there'd be better this time, and selling 2000 copies - well, how many copies of E-ON sell, on average? I know some people who are far keener on the idea of the book that on an E-ON sub.
Let's hope they run this idea in front of the community again.
Quote: edit: Think I'll ask Kieron about it at GenCon this week, along with what happened to the EVE Chronicles compilation PDF that was supposed to be out months ago
Aye, do that, and let us know what he says.

I was thinking along the same lines, and the whole thing that got me thinking about an art of eve book was the collectible cardgame that ccp are making. I was considering buying them just for the artwork, but for that price I want something a bit more 'coffee table' than tiny little cards. If they can release a cardgame where the demand for one doesnt appear to be huge, and they have enough art to fill up that many cards (assuming the cards are not just screenshots), then I think they could release one.
CCP: If a dev happens to stumble across this thread, is there anything in the works for an art of Eve book?

No need to ask at Gencon, but I'll welcome the question regardless. In a nutshell, a CCP art book is something that we are interested in doing. However, in the time since the publishing of Hellmar's Dev Blog and some website changes that inadvertantly deleted previous Dev Blog comments, we got very busy and the book became a lower priority than Serenity, the CCG development/release, RMR, Bloodlines, etc.
Now, Kari and Solaris (both are heavily involved in the art of EVE) are attending Gencon, so asking their opinion on an EVE artbook might push such a project further. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

i have my theory as to what the other one is for but i think it'll get *snip*ped.
i would love a "My First EVE Coloring Book" with bright colors on the front page, and lots of nice ship outlines with which i can color outside the lines in crayon.
(shameless plug since its almost-vaguely related to the topic) buy my lineart sigs, i can even make the drawings white-colored so you can color them yourself see my signature

Impossible, are you not the one that kept experimenting with EVE-Online on cellphones and portables ? Or am I confusing you with Chribba maybe
In that case... sorry
To OP, I think it is a great idea... I would definitly buy one if there ever came a book. ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |
