For making great planets and moons you'll want to use a round stencil. Can be anything from a simple glass or bowl to self adhesive cards that you can paint over then pull off.
Anyway, a fine start and good luck with it! |

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay. Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!
The Rules: 5. Trolling is prohibited.
Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

What a great theme to choose for a project. I love some of the texture you have got from your nebula.
But I think you could be bolder!
Check this link- or find something similar. NASA has some great images on their site.

I think your stars are too evenly placed and you could add some of those larger ones in the foreground that are not part of the same nebula. As a previous poster said you could add hot old stars in redder shades and blue younger ones to add effect. I realise some of these images are colour enhanced , but I really think this would add something, especially in acryllics.
Good luck and keep at it!

The nebulas look good. The stars look wierd. Should fade them from the edges of the nebula. |

Great to see someone with another hobby besides playing Eve. Keep at it and just remember, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. What matters is what you think.
Anyway, here's an idea -
After you have done your background (space color), randomly splatter some stars across it, then add in the Nebula followed with a bit more splattering of stars and then lastly add Planets.
Also the painting doesn't have to be really detailed. Sometimes less is more, like this screen shot I call :

my painting experience is only practical and not artistic. but i must say you do some good work. the only one i can criticize is the 3rd or "planet" one. the outline doesn't work too well as others have mentioned, but also the color of the planet itself. it seems to fade into the background in spite of the heavy outline. you mention in your OP that this is an "early attempt" at a planet. try a planet that stands out boldly from its background. practice this a few times and then advance from there. perhaps a planet of bright greens and blue on the day side as it transitions to the dark night side. now that i think about it that is more challenging than a straight up day side or night side planet. the bottom line is that you have identified planets as your weakness and several others have pointed to nebula as your strong point! practice the planets and build from there. you have talent. |

1 and 2 are really good but i love 4!
3 is good but i believe the stars stand out to much which would be fixed with the brush idea and the color mixing idea. as for the aurora stands out alittle to much for a planet that isnt mostly red which has already been covered. I may need correcting on this but i believe most planets show a much more noticable blueish hue on one side and a much less noticable redish hue on the other. and that is used to determine in which direction the planet is rotating (towards the red/less noticable side). atleast thats what i was taught 5 years ago in astronomy no idea if its true.
all in all very well done. dont let the planet discourage you from trying more objects, wouldnt mind seeing an apoc vs mega in gallente space lol |

OP, i'm not trolling, or in any way, attempting to be mean, but i think - and this is based solely on seeing your paintings via online - that your artwork lacks a couple of vital elements.
first, you need to make the stars appear at different light intervals. that is, each star is at a different distance from the viewer, hence the luminosity of each star will be different.
secondly, more detail needs to be added to the stars and nebula. that will vastly improve the overall effect.
in closing, i'd like to say i think your effort in the first picture is awesome. well done! just check out my suggestions and continue down your chosen path! eve online original intro

Nice paintings, specially the last one.
I-¦ve painted a lot but never with acrilic or space themes so I can-¦t give you any advice except maybe to use a compass (a simple pencil tied with a string will also do it ) in order to make a previus sketch of the spheres, and the day/night meridian. It's very difficult to draw geometric forms just by freehand and and due to how you have placed the planet (center of the composition, lack of other "strong" objects) drawing imperfections are highlighted.
