is it better you divesify the tech 2 drones or just stick to 1 kind?

If you diversify you will be able to match the damage types to better deal with your opponent's tank.

Once you get drones to lvl5 and scout drone operation to lvl5 all you have to do is buy the 4 racial specialisation skills and train to lvl2 to use all t2 lights and medium drones - it only takes a few days. Cheap skills and a short time after doing the hard work of getting the base skills to 5.
The next step is to get heavy t2, and just getting heavy drone operation to lvl5 will take far longer than the above.

Absolutely, diversity is key.
Especially if you are considering flying a drone boat like the Domi. For example, Warrior II's are great against intys, but you wont want to deploy Berserker II's against a Raven. You'll want other damage types available.
Indeed, its not just damage types, its damage modifiers, tracking, and speed which all very. Being able to mix and match gives you a nice advantage.

Since the training time of getting t2 heavies is quite long (even with all the base skills up) it depends on what you want to use them for imho. I've trained Berserker II and Ogre II because they give therm/exp damage which I've got must use for in missions with serp, angel and caldari NPC opponents. They've also worked very well in PvP so I don't see a direct need for getting skills up to use the other t2 heavies tbh.
