So when I started Eve I wanted a character that was more than just the most popular, or the fastest trainer; I wanted a character whos race and political views interested me. This way, I would enjoy playing with this character for, hopefully, years to come. Thus the selection of the Gallente Bloodline. I researched the ships and while I noticed the Gallente ships took a while longer to master, I liked the designs and overall feel of the ships. Yet as i entered the world of Eve and began my travels, I noticed very few of my kind. After browsing some of the mind numbing forums, I noticed the negative view that most players have of the Gallente. I even noticed that some players rate the gallente bloodline as the worst in the game.. Is this for a specific reason... I'm not one to follow the crowd, but is there a specific reason few use this bloodline? I know that a few wasted stats go towards charisma but this can be overcome in-game. Basically, in short, did I pick the 'red-headed stepchild' of Eve....?

I don't get the Gallente hate that goes on, I really like their backstory and flavour, come on people, we are pretty much the most corrupt race in the game, you think we're all goody-goody? Yeah.. eco-warrior hippys inventing Particle Blasters... It's a facade, I believe the Gallente are basically the most powerful race, from what i've read it's my understanding that we take a lot of crap off people and we smile about it but push the Federation too far and nobody will remember your name. See? that's the sort of thing that gets my heart racing politically. Though.. as normal.. I could be wrong ;p

I did the same thing. The amarr were cool but I hate fanatically religious civilizations. Then I looked at the Minmatar and realized they were slaves and those that weren't were tribal people. So I came to my last option then realized the Gallente were French and quickly chose Caldari --------------------- Radix Malorum est ISK |

I forgot to mention, last year I actually played for a few months as Caldari (Shade McKilo). A few things came up outside of the game so I fell out for a bit. As Caldari I enjoyed the gratifying SSSssss....BOOOOMMMM as i unleashed a flurry of missles towards whatever sap felt like adding a few more charred dents to the starboard side of their bucket. But as I read more into the social and political views of Caldari, I realized I was playing as a future version of America's military. Single minded meathead robots who do anything their "Large Corporation-funded" leader told them to do....

Roleplaying your race is pretty dull anyway. We have a few thousand wannabe caldari nationalists, but probably about 10-20 caldari blood raiders. And only one Drug smuggler with connections to the sani sabik.
Your roleplay is an interesting as you make it.

These two sentences directly oppose eachother. If you roleplay your race you have to spice it up yourself. A race is not a flat, linear thing either. Those so-called Caldari Nationalists you talk about aren't even putting in an effort I bet.

In a game this massive, why would you not want to roleplay your character? With the market, news, and everything else that comes with a persistent world, how could someone just turn it into a stat-fest? The many exceptional players that devote their time to figuring complex equations for stats and such are a blessing. But for me, this game is more about forgetting about what kinda pressures and deadlines ive got goin on and just losin myself for a minute or two each day. It may sound lame but too much work was put into this game to turn it into a few trig problems or write it off as just "a fun game." If I want to forget about the jackhole that cut me off on my way home from work or the price of gas, I log on and become Coda Relic. If I wanted to just figure out math problems all day I'd go dust off my old Algebra books from high school...

Coda - I hear you. I'd have to say I agree with you. When I started this game I wanted a race who agreed with what I agreed with. It helped that Gallente had the hottest chick as well .
I too have noticed very few Gallente out and about. But honestly, I wouldn't want to be part of the most popular. As you, I joined this game to relax, to roleplay another life without the hustle of normal life. It REALLY helps that I have a few friends who also joined this game (yes, they are Gallente) who mine, rat hunt, and manufacture with me. Otherwise, doing this game by yourself would be hard. Join a Gallente corporation maybe? |

Honestly, the mini chick is hawter than the gallente one ^^ And a question to you roleplayers, why roleplay? Eve is so goddamn gigantic that its a world in itself, you dont even need to pretend. And number crunching is unfortunately how you win pvp in these types of games, skill only goes so far. Gallente look cool but i hate true democracy, and the typhoon gets such a bad rap that piloting it sounds fun.

What are you all talking about ? Race means S***. It is only used to calculate your starting skills and their level. You can do/fly whatever you want. Background doesn't mean anything at all, gamewise. The only reason for talking abot races is the portrait you can make.

Well mate i find you are just where u should be right in the middle of one of the most hard and fun races to play. I try to stick to the galente idea, with close up combat using drones and rails/blasters. Yup it is skill/time consuming to get good DPS that hits and yes u do have big weaknesess in pvp and yup running missions/complexes is a ***** wich drones. But isnt it way more fun that just jumping in with that tempest and sit @ 200K and watch you balls of fire slowboat towards the target.
I love being galente and i think our Dominix is the best T1 BS in eve. =Boom
On a sidenote: well if u dont like galente way og fighting, just switch and train something else, its only your racial ship skills that wasted SP ( i like that about eve too)

My other account character is an asian Gallente, crazy samuari, his rich parents left him to watch old holos of Japanese Manga whilst they harrassed low tech planets in ships with flashing lights and beep beep noises.
Any way, Drones, Drones, Drones, only Gallente ships have the Drone capacity to make a difference. Yoshikawa's Vexor has 6 nosferatu and 7 combat drones, he he suck em dry and let the little friends take care of the rest of work. Gallente are good, very good as support characters and drones, what more can I say.....

What's not to love about the Federation? We are the only democratic republic in the universe. I personally fight daily to help protect innocents from the Ammarrian slavers and the Caldari Navy who seem all too willing to side with them for a little ISK. The Gallente, with our liberated Minmatar allies, will be the only barrier to stop the expansionist Amarr regime from taking the entire universe and crushing all individuality from its spirit. Gallente. Our people are happier, our friends are freer, and our women are much easier to talk to without getting an earful about budgets or dead gods. _______________________________________________ Now offering writing and editing services. My character is Gallente - choosen because a few friends who started just before me suggested it as we would start playing in a similar area. Silly I know but that huge map made us think if we started with different races we would be huge distances apart.
Soon realised I did not really like the Gallente ships and was not that taken with the political concept. So now my character is much more of a genralist - I envisage him as a misfit type who does not fit into Gallente soceity, hence his mercenary lifestyle.
If you are interesting in the RP elements of the game race is just a start point.

I choose galente because
A) there ships looks look nicer B) drones are for winners C) didnt like the idea of caldari usa, ammar bible basher, or minamater scafolding ships D) Armour tanking is alot more effeiceint...... E) After being killed at a gate by a mega with 425mm's on from over 200km away i decided i to would do that one day

I chose Gallente because I liked the fluff. Eve was still a big mystery. Yes, democracy and bla bla, but fluff-wise something like the Gal 'federation' doesn't last without making quick and often brutal decisions. Funky.
Then, later, I found out Gal ships are the coolest looking, and have a very appealing design philosophy; for the most part it's dirty, in-close knivery.
Compare the rax or mega to the moa or raven. Looks wise, no contest

I started out with Gallante all those years ago. But I made all the wrong choices and my dangerously low Perception really started to get me down. When the new bloodlines came out I jumped ship (and race... and gender) and made an alt. And after a few weeks I realised that I really didn't like my gallante character anymore so I proceeded to send him to his untimely demise and clicked delete.
I do however still like the gallante ships and back story over most other things in the game. And I do still intend to get myself a 'thron one of these days!

I would have to disagree; The US is only about five years behind Europe in nanny-statism and protectionist economic policies and regulation.
The Caldari would be closer to a pro-interventionist anarcho-capitalist society with their expansionist attitude and pure free market. The US and EU are far more socialist than that.
anyways,
I always felt a bit conflicted as I am a Caldari who flys Gallente Ships. It always feels a bit cruel to blow up the npc megathrons with my own megathron...

As over powered as the Calderi are right now, they couldn't fight off the other three races as it stands. They'd have the fanatic heavy plated Amarr warships, hordes, upon hordes of Gallente drones, and the quick and agile ships of the Minmatar against them.
Of course, the Jovians could get bored, and kill everyone.

Bah who cares? It's a game. Besides, a high charisma helps train leadership skills faster. Leadership skills do more for the group than _any_ individual skills do. Ever gone 5300 m/s in an inty with a MWD I? Yea, thats a 3800 m/s ship with no speed mods on it. Imagine that magnitude of bonus applied to damage and targeting speed as well.
Command ship + 3 gang modules + level 5 skills = i win button against an otherwise equal gang with none. Try training that with 16 charisma.
The grass is always greener...

But the race backgrounds are fun and the ships do matter as well. I am Caldari Civire and I fly Gallente ships. Nothing wrong with that. The Germans in the early '40s loved haveing French things, they just didn't want to be French :P
