All market regions are up, and the load queue for solarsystems is being processed faster now, due to increased cache hits on the db server
Everything seems to be in order, so I'm going back to bed. The *on call* guy is also heading to bed, but I doubt he's getting much sleep anyways since he recently had twins
I'm certain I'll be woken up if there are any more issues tonight.

I was wondering why the poor man sounded so sleepy on the phone. We were worried he had fallen asleep on the way to his computer.

Many thanks Valar, to you, the guy with the twins and the rest of the team. Not many game companies would have people as dedicated as you guys. Top effort. always remember... Think before you post

Originally by: Valar We've located and fixed the problem. It was caused by a moiconfiguration (by me) of the autogrow settings on the datafiles. As every DBA knows, using autogrow is bad, but we have it turned on so the cluster doesnt crash if the datafile runs out of space. I had been having issues with autogrowing during extended downtimes, so before I left on vacation, I changed the settings to what I though would grow the files 1gb or 500mb depending on what file it is, instead of 10%. For some reason, when I looked at the config today it had reverted to using % growth and was growing the files 200-1280000%... or well... trying to do that and in turn fill up our disk arrays.
I've fixed this setting, increased the size of the transaction log file and I hope that this is the end of the problems of the last few days.
I also want to announce that I will at most extended my weekends by one day... bad stuff happens if I take any more vacation then that
You know Valar, most of us love you all for your dedication to the EVE all of you shows! I am sure we can handle a few stressfull days when you all have your vacations. Most of the players here are grown up enough to understand that we all need our vacations. Even people at CCP! None of us cant do a optimal job without a vacation now and then. And that is the situation really for everyone. Even for they who loves and lives for their job!
Hope you all have a nice vacation, so you all have your batteries fully loaded when you return to work!

Funny how people find a reason to bash Microsoft where there is none.
Sigh. On the Net, everyone is an expert.
Oh, and good job on getting the <slang word for an addictive drug> dispenser back online.

AND POST THE FOLLOWING BUG REPORT:
Title: Feature Request: Fighters Autoreturn To Bay
Leave Client Build
Description: Fighters are bugged right now when u lose connection to server for whatever reason(note drops, server crashes etc). If u had any fighters on orbit with u they will warp with u to the spot ur ship warps to when u log off/disconnect (shoud be 1 million km away from the spot u actualy logged off at). The fighters will remain in orbit with u till ur ship actualy dissapears from space, at this point the fighters wont know what to do and will become deadspace objects. Now when u log back on there will be no way to get ur fighters back unless u mwd for 50 hours in a ceptor towards them. Is it possible to program fighters so that when their carrier disconnects they will all return to the carriers drone bay?
Reproduction steps: Deploy fighters>node drops/server crashes/disconnect>fighters follow u to ur log off spot>ur ship dissapears leaving ur fighters dead in space at the warp off/log off spot
Sit inside a pos with a carrier>deploy fighters>assign them to someone>node drop/crashes/disconnect>the fighters will become dead space objects very hard to get back with ur 100ms carrier
Computer: Does not apply
Attach a screenshot or file: leave Empty
Submit Bug Report!
WHY? Fighters take 18 hours to build EACH and cost 16 mil EACH and a carrier has 12+ of them out at any given time... AND I LOST THEM ALL AGAIN!
If I was a developer and I read a bug report written that badly I'd keep the system broken just for spite.
If this isn't trolling I don't know what is... and to the poor guy complaining about fighters I'm with u buddy... happens to me regularly... file for reimbursement it works...they give them back eventually (4-5weeks wait) and the joke factor is they usually don't say anything and just put them in the cargo bay of your ship ...
Of course this means if you're not flying the carrier when they finally decide to take care of your petition... well you've got to open a new petition for being stuck in space with 12 5000m3 figthers in a small ship cargo bay (don't laught this happened to me... its GM humour )
The best Laugh ever ... Credit goes to Killer8 for this ! Oh and apparently the mods tell me there is bad language on his site so beware kids :) |

You know, I also do IT for a living. I play with SQL for fun right now. It's amazing compared to what I was used to aeons ago. And simple mistakes like that happen. It's not that you always know what's going to happen; program settings don't always take the way you expect them to, or the way they're documented. Sometimes things go wrong; and that's just the way it is.
And then you're stuck until you get it fixed.
Now, while I'm sure none of you normal people with normal jobs have EVER made a mistake. Especially not one that inconvienienced your customers.
Grow up, people. We're humans. And neither humans nor computers are perfect. Deal with it.

You know, its great the server is back up. However, when I wake up and try to log on to push to the next skill and I still cannot logon because of scheduled maintenance, I get a little frustrated. Its not like I was headed to 0.4 space in a noob freighter trying to get the noob missions out of the way or anything. Its not like I was watching TV while warping between systems and suddenly I was no longer connected, and so have no real idea where I am. Its not like I have wasted 2 hours (which will grow to 14 hours if I cannot logon before work) of training time because I have not been able to logon since 10:30PM EDT last night. Oh, wait, it is!
That hint to the news story about traing long skils, that was pretty much a slap in the face once I figured out regular maintenance was going on during the few minutes Ihad to remedy my situtation before going to work for 12 hours.

Another quick conclusion most DBAs will easily reach, is that MSSQL plainly sucks for stability on large runtime environments.
Oracle or DB2 would be some of the the obvious choices, but even PostgreSQL would allow the stability MSSQL will never reach, with added features MS will never even grasp.
