Quote: the monopoly of mining laser II is dieing...
A monopoly would mean that people would need these things to play the game. But the miner II are nothing more then a convenient luxury.
Besides I don't see why it's bad when only a few people make a lot of money of something they either worked hard for or got extremely lucky.
It allows other people around them in their turn make money from them. Remember how the cruiser market went kaboom when the margins were too low?
I'm certain a lot of people made a lot of money because Techell sells miner II lasers.

Edited by: CT BadIronTree on 09/10/2003 12:02:00 You are wrong... Mining laser is a "first need" Products like bread or milk
It cost 50k to make it... and you sell it 5-7 millions... this is r-a-p-e...
Is like selling water to people that dieing from thirst in the desert...
Try to do this in real life and our the government will kick your ass
i edit it :) happy?

To amend your analogy, surely it's the Miner I that is like water. The Miner II does the same job, only better, so is more like lemonade than water.
And lemonade is a luxury.
There are 10 sorts of people in the world - those who understand binary, and those who do not. |

You really don't understand supply and demand do you? You might not be willing to pay that amount for it, thats fine, buy there are countless thousands out there that do.
And why would the goverment kick your ass in real life? Hello? Have you seen the duty on petrol and tobacco? And who is it that benefits from this?
Try opening your eyes and stop living under a blanket, EVE economy is pretty much the same as real life, ppl making huge profits on tiny things.

You use Harvesters? Why aren't you barking up their tree as well?
Harvesters cost nothing to produce, they drop! Though they only drop not that much that more these days, the supply is still many times higher then that of the miner II lasers.
But still they are going for at least 350K a piece and expect it to rise up to 1M a piece in a few weeks time once the regular suppliers have bought up all the harvs of the people selling them under their prices.
But don't think I'm condemning these guys. Absolutely not! They are smart busnessmen seizing the opportunity others are missing or to lazy to pick up.
At least now people are actualy making money, and after that others can make money from them. That's economy. By making money you will make money. People that make money will then again spend it.
Quote: We have setup max prizes for milk water and other products...
That's because these things are primairy needs. You can't survive without them. I'm pretty sure you don't have those fixed prices for chocolate milk as well.
You can still mine perfectly well with pirate loot miners. They aren't really as good as miner II but still are going for rates like 1-3M Isn't that worse? Those are even dropping for practically free --- soonÖ |

How do you know he didn't get a harvester drop himself? He could have and he wouldn't even need a dev to give them to him. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Monopolys are cool ingame!
Some will be able to uphold monopolys easily if the price is right, others will fail and that will:
Add spice... to the game
Release the fury of jealoux people...
Make PVP-trading more common and fun.
In my eyes there is nothing wrong with a corp having monopoly on a item. Its a cool way to introduce new stuff. Everyone will hear about it, because some people use all day to whine about it. People like me will talk about it ingame, wonder about the new item. Speak of it as a mystic thing and be very secretive about the load of 2 new super ³ber-item reverse overdrives beeing flown through pirate-gates to my station. Its the friggin spice that make EVE fun.
My idea: If there where made two BP's of each item, then one, only one, culd be introduced and one lucky corp culd harvest the money and good/bad community-relationship because of that. Down the road, 3-4 months later, the second BP is put ingame. Chances are very slim the same corp will get it if the guys who put the BP in, use their brain just a little. Then there wuld be fair competition. The newcommer messes with the oldie and vice versa.
Normally one corp "research" or develop or get a good idea (*cough* EVE-terms: find a BP). Earn alot of money before some other copy their idea or make a competing item (*cough* find BP number 2 - or if CCP is smart - another named-BP with more or less same stats).
Then we wuld have I-N-T-E-L reverse overdrives Extreme Edition vs. A-M-D reverse overdrives FX
