I am looking for a great ship for killing low sec exploration pve tengus. They generally have a massive tank and decent speed. I would like a ship that can readily counter the giant tank. I always work alone (with a probe alt) so I need to be able to kill these beasts by myself, speed or cloaky would be an excellent bonus. I would like to keep the cost under 1b and be a sub-battle ship size ship. Thanks in advance for great ideas. |

Curse will counter an active tanked Tengu very well. Against a buffer tengu, i am not sure of anything smaller than a BS apart from maybe a Proteus. |

Yeah - 2 neuts and enough web to hold Mr Tengu still or enough speed to keep up with him. |

No you will die pretty quick against a tengu in a curse... |

You could try a typhoon, its quick, good dps, nice tank, heavy neuts, and lots o drones. With a scout alt you should be fine. Lots of skillz needed tho - Nulla Curas |

i woulda said a cloaky pilgrim, sneak right up on the tengu, then web/scram/neut his tank away. pilgrim sports a better thank than a curse as well, but that's because it's suppose to operate up close rather than from afar.
but like someone mentioned, if the tengu is buffer fit you'll need to find another alternative. |

The best counter is more ships
But, yea, Curse, Cane, maybe Prot, Neut/HAM Legion maybe 5 Senses In A Person... 4 Seasons In A Year... 3 Colors In A Stoplight... 2 Poles On The Earth... ONLY 1-UP MUSHROOM!!!-á If You Like My Sig, Like Me! |

I tend to use armor tanked hurricanes - they provide a good mix of tank, neuting, dps, and scan res. Almost anything neuty will work if you catch them when they're tanking a lot of NPCs; the nice thing about the cane is that it can do the job without assistance. |

You do realise as soon as the Tengu starts shooting back, that Pilgrim is floating scrap metal just like the Curse? |

You will outlast that Tengu with a buffer tank vs no tank, start with ECM drones until the cap is drained, engage normal drones and you will see how quick that Tengu will go down, if your getting in trouble fly away. |

A nano cane works pretty well (AC fit, not arty). If you fit a pair of medium neuts you should be able to shut down their reps and AB. At close to 800 dps, they'll melt pretty quick too. The problem of course is probing them out and warping to them without them leaving.
I don't think the curse or pilgrim are viable options solo. Not enough dps to break them before they break you should they actually shoot back. The pilgrim has a further disadvantage in that it must be within 14km to engage and those PVE tengu's love to AB around. It's doubtful you'd get close enough while cloaked.
I advise against armor ships in general as an AB tengu is far faster than a mwding BC. He'll just run rings around you if you're armor fit. A gunboat legion or proteus might be able to pull it off though, those are reasonably quick even with a 1600mm plate. But honestly a nano cane is probably your best bet. |

A PvE fit AB Tengu isn't faster than a MWDing BC, even a plated one. |

Speed isn't really a huge factor - the most important thing is whether or not you land inside heated point range. If you don't, chances are that the target will be able to warp before you close the distance whether you're in a 3 km/s nanocane or a bricked up armor setup. I use armor because both a web and a sensor booster are very useful - far more so, IMO, than a few extra hundred m/s. |

Remember that whenever you catch said Tengu and whatever buffer fit it has he doesn't need energy to overheat his HAM's launchers and you better keep that in mind.
atm the single i could never counter/kill easily was the double web armor buff loki, everything else from proteus to machariels just go like pouf before I'm in armor, OC in 1vs1 situations, whenever I see several ships/peeps on local better logg off but one chances I kill it are far above 80% unless is the nasty amor Loki
Personnal opinion from my experience, doesn't mean it's stone heh.
Edit: Of course I'm talking about precise pvp fit Tengu that you can pve with, the full pve fit tengu will die easily |

I didn't check the numbers tbh but I've seen it pop up a few times. For some reason people like to use tengu's for FW missions now and I found myself in a few situations where my nano cane was the only ship able to keep up with the AB fit tengu. Rest of the guys were armor fit and had MWD's. Maybe they are just fail, in either case your numbers show it being pretty close and the tengu will have the advantage since you have to land near him and potentially close a gap. So even with a MWD armor cane being slightly faster, I still advise a nano version. You can always use more speed when going after carebears. |

Use a cloaked ship with neuts/webs. Sit in a plex cloaked, when one comes in to run the plex, decloak and point it. Usually webs and neuts will mean it dies no matter what your DPS is, since it's a pve ship. Decloak timer gives them time to warp out if you don't have a friend in a stealth bomber, but usually they're not aligned because they think they're safe once they pass the acceleration gate.
*Although sometimes getting into the sites can be tricky, the best site IMHO is the guristas 5/10. You can make it to the last room with a cov ops cloak if you're careful not to land on the beacon, and in that room a t3 will die quite quickly just with webs on it. |
