Bahhh!!! It is the worst you can imagine! You undock from a low-sec starbase - and your EVE client crashes! By average, EVE crashes each fifth undock or gate jump into another system!!!
As nice as the game is, as poorly it is written in relation to cache management or whatever causes these endless crashes!
I really wonder what will happen if I undock in low-sec, crash, and when re-entering the game I lost ship and even my character's life (with all implants)?!?
Will CCP re-create my character and ship as it was just before? Publishing a software which has faults makes the CCP team straight responsible for those situations. I cannot play only in hi-sec because the client has problems. For what do I pay my high amount of playtime money?
I hope, the next patch really keeps the promises of CCP and has much lesser faults! Otherwise, if anything happens, I really would go all legal ways to get my right! I am EXTREMELY nerved and down with my patience!!! Each fiths jump...
Nature of Crashes:
- Undocking: EVE and PC crashing, restarting PC. - Jumping: EVE crashes, can still type (chat) but nothing else anymore. Rsestarting EVE.
Some say "Oh! Simply delete files in your EVE cache!", some say "Oh! Simply run EVE in a window!". Hey, what? It is up to the EVE developers to give me a functioning product for the money I agreed to buy my playtime!
Bad, disappointed greetings,
Sven

When the servers crash you aren't the only one who gets kicked off so you won't have to worry about getting killed.

Or buy a better machine, I can jump, dock and undock all day long without any crash. Only crash once a week maybe cause of my own fault

Nope, not crashing because of the server... Other gang or corp members do not crash. Just me.
And my PC is a pretty good one!

You have updated BIOs and your GC and SC are up-to-date? Try increasing your Games Buffer size CCP\Eve\cache\prefs.ini to half of what your RAM size is.
Are you running multiple background applications? Try disabling un-needed applications/.exe files.
Try running the game in lowest graphical settings. Send a petition to CCP that includes your crash files. Maybe they can pin-point it.
Above all.. don't do a **** port job of complaining. Makes it hard to get nice responses from the Devs.

my antivirus causes alot of crashes with eve if i dont turn it off, just a thought. also system specs would be helpful to narrow down the possible causes. if it is eve thats the issue you "can" petition it and hope you get your stuff back, but to be honest my experiance with the petition system is less then,,,, umm well i dont bother anymore..
personally id turn the sound off first thing "ctrl+alt+shift+f12" as that used to cause issues for alot of people. also turn off any unneeded background tasks "icq, antivirus, nvidia destop thingy, wife, etc" see if that helps. _______________________________________________

"Dual core @ 3.06"
That'll be overclocked, and you complain that the client crashes. Try running at stock speeds and see if it cures the problem. I know from experience (I was overlocking when 20MHz was doubling the speed of the CPU) that while an overclocked CPU may appear to be stable, it often isn't.

- My system is not over-clocked. - Don't wanna lose the music, but will try. - Interesting: Increasing EVE cache size, I will do! - Other applications still running: of course, but only a few.
Hope the new EVE client (patch) will be much better!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try switching to windowed mode. I was getting occasional CTDs on session changes (entering/exiting stations, jumping). Switching to window mode has all but eliminated them, haven't crashed in ages.
It is a tad annoying, but it'll do until there's some updates/fixes. |

In ANY mode that happens. Annoying! I just restarted EVE, and AGAIN! Right the first jump! What a client software!
It really does not matter if windowed or fullscreen, the client simply crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes and crashes...!!!
I started to forget playing in low-sec because of being vulnerable to possible attacks, and hope that CCP will issue additional ISK to me for the losses of earnings I have because their faulty client. Of course I am sure, CCP will just ignore the bad situation the current client brings me in.
CCP, what can be done? Let me know! On demand, I can send you parts of my system registry! Just let me know!

As most people do not experience crashes like this, it is probably your system causing the problem, not CCP. The client side memory leak on the other hand...

Is your computer home-built or put together by a commerical company?
Are you sure your RAM is all the same speed and installed in proper matching pairs? 1.25 gigs of ram is sort of an odd number.

Greetings,
Sven
You are crashing on session changes.
I would suggest that you run the memory test found at http://www.memtest86.com/ It sounds like you have 3 sticks of memory in your machine. run this program over night and see what memory errors you have.
I have recently had a similar problem where EVE CTDed on a semi regular basis, and i tracked it down to a dual channel memory error... which, strangly i fixed by swapping the slots the DIMMs were in.
You may also want to remove the 1/4GB DIMM and see if that is the problem. Mixing different types of memory also leads to problems.
The memtest will take a LONG time(read: hours), so dont rush it.
Try removing all but one 1/2GB DIMM and see if it resolves the problem.
I've found that memory errors can masquerade as all sort of different errors, inclcuding TCP/IP, graphic corruption and even sound issues, hardware_exception_error... and its often not consistent.

Edited by: Rock Lobster on 11/08/2006 14:54:52 Intel never made a 3.06 dual core CPU, so I suspect you might have an old 3.06GHz Willamette processor which has Hyerthreading. Therefore, 333MHz RAM would be about right.
Also nVidia never made anything resembling the model name you've described. This again hints to non-standard drivers.
Check on Fuji's site for updated BIOS, and also make sure all your drivers are up to date.
You're not running the original Fuji install of Windows, are you? They put the greatest load of junk on there - I always end up reinstalling Fuji machines after a few months, because the customers complain the PC is dog slow.
The problem you're having is definately a problem with either your PC hardware or outdated or wrong drivers.

Did you tried petition them? Answered? Continuously?! Most weird things that you can get help anywhere (eve-o forum, friends, etc) but game's tech.support...
here is my advise: try to disable sound and hyperthreading both

I bet it's a memory problem, 1.25GB is really weird. Try using only 1GB (I guess it's a 2x512 MB dual channel kit), and forget the "extra" 256MB which in my opinion won't make much difference concerning gameplay. Especially if it's causing constant crashes to EVE.

Its most like either a) an nVidia problem (drivers, hardware, not sure) - as my flatmate's computers sometimes randomly reboot/crash in Eve, or its b) an anti-virus problem, as both are running ZA Security Suite, while I'm not.
For you, Ptol - the problem is likely to be that you're running 3 sticks of ram - most motherboards dislike that kind of configuration a lot. And also - some more accurate and detailed specs would be fine. For example, it runs fine on my system:
Dual-core Opteron 170 @ 2.7Ghz 4Gb (4x1Gb) GSkill BHZ DDR500 @ 540Mhz ATi Radeon x1900XTX 512mb @ 700/845Mhz DFI Lanparty SLI-DR nForce4 Motherboard
Hard drives arent important as far as this game is concerned (unless you were running low on space) eg i could say that i have 1.6TB, but that makes no diff whatsoever.
Try a fresh install of video drivers, download drivercleanerpro here
Run that in safe mode, then reinstall the latest nVidia drivers from www.nvidia.com, and install the Dual-Core patch from microsoft here
Failing that, try a full format and reinstall - that usually fixes problems ;).
For a less drastic method, you could also look at registry cleaners - but don't mess with these unless you know what you're doing.

hmmm does this happen to be a labtop machine that you are using? run the logfile and send it into CCP let them look at it and see what they think is causing the problem. Run DXdiag and save that file and send it in along also so they can get a good look at your system config.
I have been playing eve for 2.5 yrs and only once had reboot issues that came down to my audigy 2 sound card causing the problems. If this was a software problem alot more ppl would be having these issues and no one would be able to stay on for hours and hours and ohurs on end.

I get this all too frequently. It also seems to be related to getting a black screen on undocking or gettings stuck at the entering station screen (ie it only occurs on session changes). I haven't been able to find a specific cause, but I think it may be caused by the environment failing to load due to dropped packets. The last time I tried to debug it, I ended up with over a gig of logfile, perfom, and sniffer traces because it took so long for it to occur. Of course, when I'm not running data collection, it happens early in the session...
