Hello all. Sorry to bother but I've been playing Eve 2 days now and I'm really clueless. I've read some Q&As, learned how to use basic functions but am totally missing the fun I think?
I was greeted with my new character by a tutorial agent but lost connection shortly after logging in and now I'm not sure what to do. I did manage to find him at my school I think, which I got a mission from.
The items in-game are quite complicated and I don't understand the specs I am reading. Also despite all the skills it seems really linear because of the requirements needed for certain goals, objectives and assets. Is this not really the case though?
Also I haven't seen but maybe two other player ships since I've been playing. I suspected the game-world to be big but thought the noob-areas would have a bit more activity...
I feel retarded asking so many questions in chat, most I dont get answers and I'm sure I've just misunderstood somethings. It's kinda a tuff game to pick-up I think.
Anyone courteous or bored enough and have the time to show a rookie around?

You're not retarded. This game has a learning curve. My best advice is simply to keep playing and asking questions. You will figure it out.
Feel free to Eve-mail or open a conversation with me in-game anytime to chat or ask specific questions --------------

There are 2 tutorials. An in-space tutor and an in-station tutor. If you missed the in-space tutor and want to go thru it, create a new character in one of your other slots. Then when you join, you'll start with the tutor again. When you're done, you can always delete that character and go back to your other one. Also, if you have a question, try using the Help chat channel. There's usually some helpful people there.

You aren't retarded, or missing something, or anything like that. This game has some of the worst documentation I have ever encountered. Even the tutorial barely scratches the surface.

I agree about the poor documentation. I actually bought the Strategy Guide (mistake #1), and then I took for granted that the information in that strategy guide was accurate (mistake #2.)
This game is complicated. Just play, ask questions, and you'll pick it up. Hell, I've been playing for 4 months and I still learn crap I didn't know.

many factors are in play in this game much depends on what kind of player you want to be and what choices you made whn you made your avatar. each skill pack need diff atributes to train and the amount of time it takes to train them. so you need to mine at first the first ship if your caldari is a bantam. after that your path is wide open. ingame im me if you need help m8. |

Also, don't be afraid to try something out and fail. While the game has a steep "learning cliff", it's very forgiving of mistakes when you are new. You don't have a lot of skill points, so you won't have to spend much on a clone (do buy an upgraded clone. It only takes a day of training to build more skill points than the basic clone replaces) and replacement rookie ships are free. This gives you a freedom to try things that people with a ton of skill points, rare implants and pricey ships wouldn't want to take a chance on.
Good luck, and don't get discouraged!

Silverix,
Sadly eve is not noob friendly. Without guidance it is very difficult to learn the ropes, be a successfull player, and be able to fully get your moneys worth from what is a very deep, challenging, and rewarding game. I will put my chips down with my fellow players and encourage you to hang in there and not give up. I am always more than willing to help out anyone new to the game. If I can be of service don't hesitate to contact me.
see you in space. _________________ "For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack."

No definately not retarded... join the Help channel and ask questions... be prepared to get some rather ignorant answers at times tho.. we have some great people here and some UberBoobs. Or open a convo with me in game and I'll be happy to help if I can (I've been playing 4 months and STILL feel clueless )... Eve indeed can be tough to learn for new people. Stick with it and things will start to make sense. Everything ties together in one way or another.
For specific examples and direct questions being answered, feel free to eve-mail me or open a convo (normally on late night CST).
Good luck :)

Visit the help channel or evemail anyone here thats offered (I'll offer too). I agree its a bit of a "learning cliff".
By the way its nice to see so many people offer to help a new player and not flame him like I've seen in some other 'help me' threads.
WAY TO GO EVERYONE!!

Edited by: Koda on 10/10/2003 14:03:41 An RL friend, in game for about a week, bought the Prima Strategy guide and started spouting statistics about various ships.
He was disappointed when I told him that ship stats and probably most figures in the Guide weren't accurate as the game had been "balanced" since the Guide was released.
Now he's just as confused as the rest of us. --------------

I remember back in beta, me and Lord Zap (not that he was called that then) had both started at the same time and were trying to get the hang of it.
It was about 2 or 3 weeks into the game when I realised that although we were both flying Rifters, and used to head off to the same destination at the same time (from the same spot). I would always get there substantially faster.
"Why does it always take so long for you to get anywhere?" I asked (or words to that affect)
"It's this ****ing map!!! Takes me ages to work out which system to go to next!"
"????? - Do you know about the "Set Destination" button?"
"...."
"right-click on the system you're going to...."
"WHAT!?!?!"
...amzing that he went on to become Public Enemy No.1...

As someone who's been playing for around 6 weeks now, i'll agree that there is a learning 'cliff', but you'll get there in the end and boy is it worth it.
