I was thinking the other night of a way to have custom ships in game (i.e.: ships that are based on present ships but with a few modifcations).
My idea is that you can combine 2 Orginal BP's into a new 3 BP (both orginals are destroyed in the process). The resulting BP would have the combo of the 2 orginal BP's.
For example, if I had a Megathron BP and I wanted to increase its power grid, I could go out and buy a Power Relay BP. Then I'd take the 2 BP's, go to my research lab and research them for a 3rd BP.
The new, custom Mega BP would be a combo of both bp's (minerals and time to build).
I also suggest that there be a limit of how often you can use merge a BP (and what BP's can be merged via this method). Seeing as there are 4(?) steps of are/named loot for items, I think that this should be the limit of the number of merges.
Also, with each merge the additional BP's mineral requirements should increase lineraly. For example, the formula would be: [(Main BP mineral cost)+X*(sum{Mineral requirements of Added BPs})] (X = the number of addition BP's added, max of 3/4).
Again, the input BP's are destroyed via this process but a new BP is made with the added abilities. The new outputed BP should also be Uncopyable.. or at least have a very long copy time.

Huh?
The Dev's have talked about giving Corp's the ability to "Brand" ships.. this would be a simple way.
And yes.. I have a clue. Mabey if you had one, wouldn't be trolling in the IDEA LAB.

Well, I suppose, you could do that... but you'd have to balance it somehow.

this is one of the worst ideas in years. Do you think that if you write some Windows source code on your refrigirator it will start freazing up? not likely. you can't cross a coffee mug and a cat and have a cat who likes coffee...just doesnt work like that...if you take four apples they dont become extra-tasty, or extra-uber...they are still apples, just more of em.

Well, I don't really like the idea as you present it, but it has its points.
Ship modifications should become a reality, but combining to ship blueprints makes no sense to me. Using a special modification blueprint might be reasonable.

What i'd like to see is certain stations that specialise in producing hybrid ships of their own: a kind of garage. then they could sell various ships that they have tweaked themselves: i.e. an improvement in speed/weapons/electronic.
could easily be set up in game, and there could only be a dozen or so such places around, and the ships could be more expensive.
i would imagine this quite a likely scenario.
would make the eve universe a more diverse place...and in terms of ships etc it needs it..

I wonder if this is already in the plans for the game? eventually we will be able to reverse engineer items and improove thier stats, right? So it would be logical to make inmprovements to ships as well. I kind of like the ship mod blue print idea. Where you would have the plans and a list of items and minerals needed to complete the mod. The custome build idea is crazy, it would be great to be able to spec out a ship for one thing or another. I think if they give player the ability to custom ships it should crazy skill requirements to keep what comes out limited and covetted. it would be easyier in game development, I imagen, to just add ne ships to the market. Another thing would be radom abondond ships in remote locals that we could board and after getting it back to the station having a dedicated skill for it. not a standard skill a skill that is dedicated to that ship, it own owners manual. some thing that you can only train while you poses the ship. I might be going a bit over board in the thinking process, but thats what ranting will do.

Hey the ppls - few quick things to say - Good topic to raise Doc Brown - this is something that needs to be seen in game - although i'm sure the method used to do so will need loads and loads of braistorming and discussion to which I say to most other members in this forum "Good start to the Debate". Just sadly and lastly, Negotiator - It is so easy for people who have no ideas of their own to attack someone elses. I suggest that you don't overly stress yourself on your lack of imagination / Talent / Intelligence - as you can rest assured that these things will begin to emerge (However limited) - within you at the onset of Puberty. Until this Monumentally important stage of your life - i suggest that you shut up and read what the grown ups have to say.

While it would be fun to combine to BS bps, but I think that only tech level 1 medium and/or low slot items should be allowed to be combined.
Though this needs some limiting so people can't combine frigates with 1400mm armor boosts. _________________________________________________
