I'm just curious why MWD's aren't allowed in most missions? It would seem that if you could use them it'd allow you to use something other than a raven to complete missions relatively quickly.

I think either all ships (ie npc ships aswell) shouldnt be able to use MWD's in deadspace, or all ships should be able to. Having a one sided penalty is just stupid imo

It supposedly so you can't snipe the rats from safety. But I think with the advent of ECM and modules like that used by NPCs they should allow it... Tracking Disrupters, Sensor Damps can really make it harder on you. But as I fly gallente, it severely hurts me to not use MWD on my ships, such as the mega, thorax, and brutix.
Its also supposed to stop those from completing the levels too fast or something.

if its to stop snipping then why would they let you warp in at 100km on encounter mission
i agree that it is really stupid and it hurts gallente and minnies the most since we are both about range ----------------------------------------------- I lost 5 sp of skill trainning time during the last patch an i demand that ccp refund it to me |

exactly we either need to be really close or really far out. I was just messing around in worlds collide with my mega and it was just a pain in the rear to use. I wanted to try and use a blaster setup which would have been awsome. except to use blasters you really need a MWD and fitting for range only works for the first stage without a MWD.

MWDs don't work in deadspace missions. And encounter missions are slowly being replaced by them.

the only way encounter missins are going to be left in game is if more ppl reject the odd deadspace mission - or zerg a few level 1s to balance the database feeds out that CCp gets on the stats

That has nothing to do with it. I think on EVE TV or somewhere I else, one of the CCP devs doesn't seem to like encounter missions, so they are getting phased out.
I don't want a deadspace vs encounter debate, both are viable mission types I think. I enjoy both, but at the moment I enjoy encounter because the rats start at usually 15km and I can zoom to them with a MWD, and use my blasters and ship like it was meant to be used.

I still don't know myself why MWD's aren't allowed in missions. They gimp tanking quite a bit with their cap penalty, so in my mind they are balanced modules, but for some reason in missions they suddenly aren't? ===== Close encounter of the Hijack kind? Impossible. Unless it is as bad as I think... And if they were out to get m-- |

Edited by: Tsanse Kinske on 11/08/2006 16:04:16 Edited by: Tsanse Kinske on 11/08/2006 16:03:16 I don't know precisely why they're not allowed, but my suspicion is has something to do with the NPC's AI/capabilities in using their speed. The reason I say this is that even at just ~750 k/s, none of the L3 NPC Intys I've run into have been able to catch me as long as I get a jump on them--which I always have been able to do if I knew what to expect. I don't have a good explanation of why this is. Clearly they can move faster than that, but if I'm moving fast away from them and have 25k or so distance, they'll never get it lower than 12k or so, and then it'll be back up above 20. If I get a bigger jump, they stay further away even than that. If I were using even a medium range setup, I could kite them straight to hell without breaking a sweat. Solo.
I haven't done L4s yet, and I imagine they're harder to get away with that in...but with an MWD I could go much faster than my afterburner AF *in a freaking battleship*.
Clearly there are deeper problems here. People always say it's unfair that the NPCs can use MWDs in deadspace while players can't. But NPCs don't use them like any sane player would. I think the ban on player MWDs is just a bandaid to hide that.
The real problem that bandaid is trying to cover is NPC AI, and this is just one small part of it. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
