Just got my Merlin destroyed by a PC. Which in itself hasn't annoyed me.
But I'm wondering why some people just kill other players with no apparent reason. I couldn't have been carrying anything that would have been of any worth in a Merlin and there was no demand for any isk.
Any PKers out there wanna give me some insight into why they do it?
Here's the bit that's annoyed me and stopped me playing for the evening.
"0 Items available" What the hell is that about. I can't even re-equip my ship and carry on. Just how difficult is stuff like that to fix. If you want some leasons in SQL CCP drop me a line. Try this for the time being ... "WHERE [something] > 0"

Simply because you never know what a ship is carrying. A corp could be trying to be cheeky and slip by a bp in a frigate, so simply you cant take the chance. you either hit everything or nothin

Have you even considered that it's just mad fun to blow things up.
In this game, you really don't need any reason.

Edited by: Captin Zed on 10/10/2003 12:44:38 I have always wondered this myself Thanatar but be content that almost every multiplayer game I have ever played has had the PK bunch of people in it.
I think they get some pleasure out of knowing they have 'owned' sombody else no matter what the circumstances. Mabey they didn't get enough hugs when they were small, I dunnno.
Pirates in EVE are a good thing (I have yet to meet one tho), PKs who exploit/gank others just to get kills - lame!
Excuses such as 'You shuttle might have had several Battleship blueprints in it!' - Really lame, only ONCE have I heard sombody claim this on the forum and that was posted with an alt, hummm.
EDIT: Cargo scanner ?????

cargo scanner take up a slot. A slot that ppl cant afford to loose on their ship setups.

I lost a ship to Billi Bob also. He, and few of his friends (Havocide, Psychopath, Keo Morigan) just kill for pleasure. They really like to harass miners. They send one of their fellow bi tch to scout the system and report the lonely miners location. Then, the others warp with their big BS and kill you. Just for nothing.

It's easy enough to spot a PK d00d, he's named Havocide, DrEvil, Tank CEO or some such lame thing, should be easy to avoid too, see them come into the system, get the hell outta dodge...

Besides thrill kills, there are a number of reasons that a PKer isn't going to reveal to you.
For instance if Al-qaeda wants to decrease tourism, regardless of how they do it they'll be more successful if they don't explain their intentions.
If I kill you and explain that I'm trying to incite combat here to sell more ammo, you'll use that knowledge to frustrate my efforts. But if it just looks like senseless PKing is going on, ammo sales might increase in the region according to plan.
I know of people who have a variety of reasons for PK that I've never seen mentioned in the forums. The various levels of intrigue in this game make it impossible to be sure you were merely killed for thrills, even if your aggressor says so.
In that respect, PvP in Eve is very different from PvP in most games where it's easily apparent whether you were "senselessly" slaughtered.
