I think the Maller's a great looking ship, but all these 1600mm / small gun setups make me cry. So I set out to see if I really could squeeze a sensible medium laser setup on here. Take your projectile setups elsewhere.
5x Focused Medium Pulse Laser II 1x E50 Prototype Energy Vampire
1x 10MN Afterburner II 1x Faint Warp Prohibitor I 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
1x Medium Armor Repairer II 1x 800mm Reinforced Crystalline Carbonide Plates I 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x Pseudoelectron Containment Field I 1x Mark I Generator Refitting: Reaction Control
3825 armor with 84%/69%/71%/75% resists, maxed compensation 20.3 PG / 0.91 CPU remaining with a 3% turret CPU implant
I've sacrificed the 1600mm plate for an 800mm; RT is the best but it's so rare I've had to downgrade to crystalline. The named RCU is cheap and squeezes out that extra bit of CPU you need.
I really wanted to chuck the DC for a heat sink on here but it's already on the CPU border. Now I'm calling on the experience of the EVE elders to comment on whether this setup makes any sense or not. Is the extra damage from FMP II without heatsinks worth the tank hit from a 1600mm/small laser setup?
Or is this just an expensive sub-Prophecy disaster waiting to happen?

Maller is a good cruiser for fleet support, like protecting bs's from tacklers.
I use something similar, however, i drop the NOS and use focused medium beams, that way i dont have to worry about range. And a t2 800mm plate can fit on there with t2 heatsink. -------------------------------------------------

I salute you for putting medium turrets on a cruiser. Its depressingly rare these days.
The set-up looks solid, and i can't fault you on it really. I would probably drop the nos and reactor control in favor of a heat sink too, but thats just becuase the mallers damage isn't that fabulous.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think you're both right I really do need a heat sink on here. I couldn't find an MAR/800mm setup that really worked for me, so let's try this one...
5x Focused Medium Pulse Laser II 1x Small Energy Neutralizer II
1x 10MN Afterburner II 1x Faint Warp Prohibitor I 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
1x Small Armor Repairer II 1x 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x Heat Sink II 1x Power Diagnostic System II
6075 armor with 82%/64%/66%/71% resist, maxed compensation 7.25 PG / 13.25 CPU remaining with Eng V, Elec V, WU V, AWU V
This is an evil setup to fit because it needs Advanced Weapon Upgrades V if you don't want to leave that last high slot empty. With the NOS out of the picture I decided it needed to become a little more passive, and the 1600mm plate helps that aim. The PDS also improves cap recharge a little.
The neutralizer is just to annoy close-range tacklers, disabling their MWD so you can web and dispose of them. I feel a bit naked without drones but that's the Maller style, so...

I've done a quick damage estimate with Naughty Boy's spreadsheet. Not used it before so I hope I got it right.
maller_s_vs_m.png
A quick scout of the common Duramaller setups reveals that one Heat Sink II is the most popular, so I think this represents a fair comparison. We only gain about 15% DPS over MP II w/ Conflag but about 60% in range. One might suggest that FMP II really comes into its own with Scorch, but closer scrutiny shows that MP II's optimal is already beyond E50 NOS range.

Edited by: inSpirAcy on 11/08/2006 13:35:01 Aha! I think I'm starting to get the hang of this ship...
3x Focused Medium Pulse Laser II 2x Quad Light Beam Laser II 1x Small Energy Neutralizer II
1x 10MN Afterburner II 1x Faint Warp Prohibitor I 1x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
1x Small Armor Repairer II 1x 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 2x Heat Sink II
6075 armor with 82%/64%/66%/71% resist, maxed compensation 9.4 PG / 3.75 CPU remaining with Eng V, Elec V, WU V, AWU V
I got two heat sinks on, yay! The QLB II may look a bit kooky at first but it can match the range of FMP II. It's not great at extreme range: Aurora devastates its tracking to half that of FMP II, but works well at short-mid range. Fill that with Conflag / Scorch and you're starting to get a damaging beast.
I'd love to do a graph of this but NB's spreadsheet doesn't list QLB II.

Anyone have a good setup for a fleet cruiser class tackler? I just need something a little more durable than an inty... I was thinking something along these lines:
HIGH 3x Medium Pulse Laser II 3x Medium Nos II
MED 1x 10mn AB II 1x Warp Scrambler (20km) 1x Webber
LOW 1x Medium Armor Rep II 2x Energized Adaptive Nano II 1x 1600mm Plate 2x Cap Power Relay .: You laugh because I'm different :: I laugh because you're all the ******* same :. |

Hey guys, I am kinda ****ed, my Arb just got fragged because the warp took way too long. (Kept changing direction whats up with that =P) I am migrating to a Maller because I don't need to rely on drones at all. What would be a good setup for lvl 2 missions. Also is a destroyer better for the job? (lvl 2 missions I mean)

destroyers can do most lvl2 missions - they just take a long time with a lot of warping away and repairing then warping back.

Well for PVP i say drop 1 gun and fit a NOS and get red of the plate and fit a heatskin . This way you can run the rep 24/7 and make your enemy dry faster.
It always worked for me.

I supose you use Conflagration but if you find it to nasty you might whant to replace it whit Gamma and even swich the tech II guns whit some modulated ones whit gamma . It's all a matter of luck and skills

5x Medium Beam Laser I Medium Nosferatu I
10MN Afterburner I Medium Capacitor Battery I J5 Prototype Warp Inhibitor I
Medium Armor Repairer I 1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates I 2x Adaptive Nano Plating I Damage Control I Capacitor Power Relay I
I tried the medium turret version, but it just didn't work out for me too well. You can shoot frigs much better with the small turrets, and the 1600mm plate is no joke.

Personal favorite:
5x Quad Light Beam Laser II 1x Med Nos
10mn AB II 20km Scram X5 Webber
Medium Armor Rep II 2x EANM II 1x Heatsink II 800mm Rolled Tungsten Plate 1x CPR
Why the Quad Light Beam Laser II? Because it has slightly better tracking than Focused Medium Pulse II, just about the same optimal, only slightly less fall-off, and only slightly less DPS. The final kicker being that it requires less PG for an entirely more low-slot, which here I have chosen to fit with an EANM II for more tankiness. You can easily switch that out for a Heatsink II to compensate for the lost DPS of switching to Quads.

5x Dual 180mm Autocannon II
1x 10MN Afterburner II 1x Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor 1x Fleeting Warp Scrambler
1x 1600mm Rolled Tungsten 1x Medium 'Accomodation' Armor Repairer 2x Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1x Damage Control II 1x Gyrostabilizer II
7.2 PG / 26.75 CPU left with AWU 4.

I think my t1 fit nos+neutralizer setup Vexor would probably kill any of those setups - they're all cap dependant for either damage or tank. perhaps swap the web for an injector and fly with a friend? Or fly it like a rax and try and squeeze as much damage as possible out before cap dies...
