BAH! Starfire was kinda cool, but nothing but nothing beats spending 16 hours on a fleet battle with 50 pages of ship data sheets and *litterally* about 1000 pages of rules. The deadliest SFB player : the rules lawyer.

Enjoying it quite a bit! And I had never played SFB before SFC and have never even heard of Starfire.

Heh.
Starfire was created at the same time and by the same designer as SFB. But it's a fleet combat game rather than a few ships, and it also have a very strong strategic "pen'n'paper" (with several excellent aids, including an online one) 4x game.
Kashre, the best thing about rules lawyers is you can give them an infinite loop rules issue then leave while their brains are going round in circles...

I have spend a lot of weekends with SFB ...
We loved the absolutely modular rule system.
Don't like how a piece of equipment works? Remove it, or make up your own rules.
The mix of tactical and strategical combat often ending in boarding action during campains just rocks.
