Hi all,
I have learned Procurement up to lvl 2 in order to be able to place remote buy orders. But now that I have the skills, how do I do this?

I'm not in the game right now so I can't look, but I believe that when you place a buy order you get a window that asks you how far you want to range it. The default for anyone without Procurement is the station. As I recall, at level 2 you should be able to include the system and one jump away. Any way, that's where you would set it.

Thx for the reply , but I am almost 100% sure that even a no-skilled person can click up to 'region' once a buy order is placed (from withing the same station!). Iam looking for ways to make buy orders in stations, lets say 5 jumps away (e.g. low sec space).

Edited by: Gadfly Hawke on 11/08/2006 20:22:39 I've discussed this with my alliance mates in game. We've concluded that there is no way to remotely place a buy order, regardless of what the skill says. It appears that you actually have to go to the station to place the buy order. You might want to petition this and ask the devs.

Edited by: WredStorm on 11/08/2006 20:58:00 Gadfly is incorrect, the Procurement skill works just fine, I used it myself the night before last successfully. I can't remember exactly what steps I went though, but I *think* it was like this:
1) You can only place a remote buy order in a system if someone is already selling the item there. Even if you don't want to buy it at the price they are offering (e.g.: they are offering tritanium for 50 ISK each) you still need someone to be selling said item there if you want to place a remote buy order there.
2) Open up your market window. Do a search for the item you want. You should end up seeing the results screen that displays all the buyers and sellers of your item in your current region. Sort the Sellers list by system/station name.
3) Scroll down and find someone selling the item you want in the system you want your buy order placed in (preferably at the station you want it at too). Right click on their selling offer and choose "Buy this". Don't worry, you won't actually be buying their items. You'll get a pop-up box giving you the option to buy what they are selling but in the bottom right of that pop-up is a button labeled "Advanced". Click on that button.
4) You'll now have a new pop-up box appear that lets you specify what price you want to pay for the item in question. You should see a line of text that indicates you are placing this order at the same station as the original seller you chose "Buy this" from. You can set your quantity and the duration your order will stick around for. Depending on your Visibility skill level you can set the Range of your buy order to something greater than just the starbase.
Note: After you submit your remote buy order you can adjust the price you are offering, but it requires the DayTrading skill to make such changes remotely. I had an order that I placed remotely and later that night noticed someone had put in an order for 0.01 ISK higher than my own. I tried to adjust my price slightly higher and ended up having to travel all the way to the starbase in order to change my order. I could have just cancelled my original order and placed a new one but then I'd have been out the 170k ISK in broker's fee from the first order. Instead, I just had to pay the difference in brokers fee based on the difference between my original and new price.
Hope this helps, and hope I got the sequence you have to follow correct. I think the biggest mistake people have is not realizing the item has to be for sale at the station/system you want your order in in the first place, and then also they forget that Procurement at level 1 only lets you place orders in the same system you're currently in. To overcome these two issues I suggest going to the system and putting a copy of the item you want for sale for 3 months at some completely unreasonable amount (e.g.: put 1 tritanium on sale at a price of 11000 ISK... you'll be able to place remote buy orders at that station then for the next 3 months, unless someone buys that 1 tritanium and no one else is selling any there). You only need to place such an item for sale if no one else is selling that item there already. With regards to the Procurement skill, you really need to get it to at least level 2, which gives you a range of 5 jumps for your orders, although level 3 (range of 10) will probably cover 90% of the scenarios you'll come across.

Edited by: WredStorm on 11/08/2006 21:09:07 I thought I'd just touch on, briefly, why someone might want to place remote buy orders. My own situation was one where I was using every last ISK I had to buy up minerals in a system and haul them to another system where I was making a 25% profit. I'd have loved to place a long term buy order in that system to buy up the mineral as I knew people were mining it in that system, but I had no ISK left after buying up every bit I could afford.
So, I hauled my minerals to the destination system, sold them (which now gave me a bunch of ISK to work with), jumped back just a couple of hops so that I was within 5 jumps of that "source system" (my Procurement skill is currently at level 2) and placed a remote buy order in that system before going to bed for the night. I saved myself the time it would have taken to jump all the way to that system (roughly 15 minutes in my indy as I didn't have instas for that route yet). The next night when I logged in to play, people had taken advantage of my buy order and sold me almost the full amount I'd wanted to buy (that was when I discovered someone had offered 0.01 ISK more per mineral).
So for me, the remote order was a time saver, letting me place a buy order in a system that I knew would be producing a particular mineral that I wanted to transport elsewhere, all without having to go all the way to that system.
I can imagine a time in the future, when I have more ISK to work with, that while running a trade route I'll note alot of some mineral being sold in a given system. That will be a clue to me that people are mining it there and I might go ahead and place a remote buy order in that system for however much I can afford or am able to haul in my indy. I won't have to detour from the current trade run I'm doing in order to go place my buy order in that system. With any luck my full order will be filled in a few days and I'll go back to the system later to pick it up and haul it wherever.
Again, hope this helps, WredStorm

Thanks for the info, WredStorm. That was very informative. Your mention of not being able to buy in a station that does not have the item for sale is where we got stuck. Your solution, to go there and put up the item for sale at a ridiculous price, appears to be the correct strategy.
