I have been ingame for a little over a month, and am pleased to announce that within a very short while, I will be the proud owner of a shiny new retriever. Infact, I should have the funds for the purchase of said ship in a few more hours. On or about Thursday, next week, I shall have the required skills enabling me to pilot the ship. My question is... until I have scraped up enough isk to buy a pair of strip miners, can I use the old miner IIs on the retriever? Will they work? If so, that would be simply fabulous as the additional capacity will allow me to mine longer without trips to the station, and I should earn the money for those strip miners quicker. I will also be able to sell the Osprey for a nice bit of change.

No. You cannot use Miner IIs on a Retriever, or any other mining barge for that matter, because they are considered turrets, which barges lack hardpoints for.
However, if you look at your wallet, you may find the strip miners aren't so far off as they once seemed.

You could do that, but it would be fairly pointless. The Retriver doesn't get any mining bonus to miners, so you'd mine faster with a simple mining frigate, as this wouldn't cost several million ISK and be extremly slow. Yeah a mining frig has a smaller cargo, but if you just spend a bit of time and ISK you can get an industrial ship, and just jetcan mine.

The retreiver is an awesome ship for the starting high-sec miner. It is what I spent my first month or two in. It mines almost as much as a battleship at a fraction of the cost. Just be careful in low-sec ! It is super-flimsy!
