hi all im totally addicted to eve, i have been playing 6 weeks and have finally got my brutix i always wanted! i am still training a lot of the skills i need but im getting there..
i know i have my brutix set up all wrong, and i would like you guys to help me set it up for ratting in low sec.. today i have learned skill for arm hardener.
my set up curently is..
when i put 7 medium rails on i run out of grid.. so:
6x medium railguns with med hybrid charges
mid slots: large sheild booster, small sheild extender,stas webb, warp scramb
low slots: 3xreactor control units,400mmreinforced stell plates,1xmed arm repairer.
i know this is wrong, if you could list things by their proper name so i can search for them it would be much appreciated! as im still learning a lot!

Did you buy my brutix recently? 
Hm, get rid of the shield tank. Go for a armor tank, t2 med armor rep could do or choose for 2x t2 med or maybe large t2 armor repper. Also throw some med blasters on it with a mwd, nos and webifier.
Not sure what you wanne use it for though, but your current setup stinks.

Brutix with blasters for a new player = not a good idea at all.
For you, here are some things to go by for missions and such.
1.) Drop the scram and web if you are just ratting in lowsec, they won't go anywhere :)
2.) Brutix's bonus' are tailored to armor tanking, so the only reason to shield tank it is for shock value. Fit the best named medium armor repairer that you can (medium 'accomodation' vestment reconstructor)
3.)put all cap rechargers in your med slots, you need to be able to sustain the rep, guns and hards. (use AB if you can't use a tractor beam)
4.) use 4 rat specific hardeners, if you tell me what rats you are fighting people can help you with these
5.) Fit as many 200mm rails as you can at this stage, with higher engineering skills you can go to 250 (much harder on grid) Any extra slots put a tractor beam to make looting easier and fill up with best named 150mm railguns (yes the small ones)
6.) get 5 medium drones in the drone bay and use them.

ah i think i see what you mean. so usually, i would run like mad when my shield gets low, but with this set up, my shield would go straight away, but i would be relying on my armour, whichwould be very hardy, and not deplete much with your set up, is this correct?

Ok, stop using the Brutix. Start using frigs or cruisers, wait until you have more skills. Sorry, I don't mean to be discouraging, but if you have only been playing for 6 weeks you really have no place using a BC. You really need to take more time to develop mechanic, engineering, electronice, navigation, and gunnery skills. Sorry but thats the way it is. Especially trying to use a blaster battlecruiser you need better navigation skills, as well as much better cap and fitting skills.

Brutix with low skills is pretty bad.
With high skills, its with no doubt the best bc out their, due to the fact it can do battleship like damage and have a good tank.
(someone is going to contest the "best bc w/ high skills but i honestly dont care)

train the nessecary skills in order to use this setup:
6x 200mm Prototype Gauss Gun /Antimatter Ammo
1x Target Painter
1x Capacitor recharger
1x Webifier
1x 10MN Afterburner
1x Medium Armor Repair
2x Armor Hardeners (Rat Specific)
1x Capacitor Power Relay
1x rcu/pdu/cpr if you need extra grid/cpu, otherwise fit a plate.
You should get all the gunnery support skills (Sharpshooter, Surgical strike etc) to at least level 3, your Battlecruiser skill should also be at least 3 for the repair bonus. Mechanic, Hull and Repair Systems should all be lvl 3-4.

thankyou everyone for your suggestions. now i have something to go at, i will train those skills you mentioned, and try the setups you have suggested. your help is appreciated, and is invaluable to relative newbies like me!
maybe in a month or to i can kick your asses! lol
i think for the next week i will go back to my thorax, and research the subject thouroghly before making such a big investment again.

Shield tanked Brutix works fine for sniping IMO (well mid range snipping).
7x250II rails
1xsensor boosterII 1xmed injector 1xM sb 1xEm hard
3xmfsII 1xtrack. enh 1xto fit them
I think this fits more or less awu4 might be slightly wrong have no shipfit here.
It certainly packs almost double the DPS of the standard Eagle sniper and should do 100km+ with spike nice cruiser/AF killer.
(yes you dont use 1 bonus I know but how many times can one post the same Ion and mar or elec+2xmar set ups without puking?)
(btw its for teh gangs and teh gatecamps not to wander around low sec or 0.0)

As a new player your #1 concern in low sec with a ship as expensive as a brutix should be pirates.
You will want to use LONG range rail guns, I suggest the 250mm rails with a mid range ammo. You will also want atleast 1 Medium Nosferatu.
In the middle slots you are going to want to drop all the shield modules but you will need a Afterburned, a Webifier (to catch pirates in frigs that your guns cant hit). You can use the last mid slots for almoast anything you want but i would suggest a cap recharge be one of those.
In the lows i would use 3x adaptive nano's, 1 Medium repper, armor explosive hardener(because all the pirates out there will usually come at you with explosive rockets or missiles) OR drop the 3 adaptive nano's and use an energized therm/kinetic and a Magnetic field stabalizer OR extra armor if you can fit it.
Also be painfully aware that you will be vulnerable to frigates if you use railguns so make SURE to fill your drone bay with light scout drones and NOT medium scout drones. Work on your drone skills and you shouldnt have a problem with frigates if you snag them in a webber and nos them.

follow the advice above, cuase if i catch you in a belt you will lose your brutix. My suggestion, stay in high sec until you become better at flying that thing, otherwise someone like myself will destroy it.
