No, it's really not the lesser evil. Anything that gives the empires more power is a good. If it's at the expense of capsuleers, then even better. |

Due to a publication error from Concord Communication Personnel, a new corrected list has been published. I have edited the previous post in this thread to make it clear. The old numbers released were a calculation error!
Correct list:
- Amarr - 132.301
- Caldari - 76.976
- Gallente - 54.980
- Minmatar - 13.130
- Independent - 11,092
Amarr are clearly in the lead, with Caldare & Gallente following in a solid 2nd & 3rd place. Minmatar are lagging severely behind & have to keep an eye out that their research accumulation won't be beaten by the independents. Empires seek capsuleer assistance in Sleeper research! Keep in mind, these is NOT the latest update, it is the corrected research list that was published earlier. My assumption (this is a hypothesis, not a fact) is that Concord Communication Personnel switched the value of Neural Networks & Sleeper Libraries. Further, I severely question the portrayal of us as exploited victims who deserve anything at all, considering the lifestyle of ludicrous excess the average pod pilot already enjoys. Make no mistake; Us hoarding technological progress for ourselves and leaving the rest of the world to capitulate to our terms or rot simply because we have the position of advantage to do so would not be a bold, heroic defiance of authority. Rather, it would be just another example - amongst a near-infinite number in human history - of a small group of hyper-privileged and hyper-empowered individuals selfishly profitting at the expense of the vast majority of human beings alive.
It really doesn't seem like a good idea at all.
We're the ones risking lives and ships in collecting the trinkets they want us to give them. I think it's only fair that we remain part of the equation when technological discoveries are made. We already have a medium through which capsuleers can aid in the research of Sleeper technology: the Arek'jaalan Project. Why aren't these avenues being taken by the empires? By excluding a donation option for A'J it almost comes as a slap in the face to anyone who seriously wants to aid in the progression of knowledge, and I think it goes without saying that such potentially powerful data is better in the hands of a scientist like Tukoss than poster-boy admirals and politicians.
When all of the options are poor in an election, some people will write-in their friends or fictitious people and essentially vote "none of the above". Sometimes the write-in is Sleeper Social Club, for lack of a better option. Of course, opinions vary wildly even within our own organization. The flexibility of the sell-to-corp model will allow each of us to make our own decisions, and I hope you make the one you find most reasonable Pilot Ikiryo. It should not surprise anyone that the donations to the Amarr Empire outshine the others. Some people thought the Caldari ISK-shifters would be the linchpin. As it turns out, their selfish and vulgar obsession with ISK outweighs any adhesion they have to their people. I am unsure as to why this surprises anyone. |

If Tukoss wasn't MIA and A'J was active, I could see this being realistic and I'd probably be supportive. As that's not our current reality, I would have to agree that the Empires are the better option. It is sad though that there are no real secondary choices here.

Update on the research numbers:
- Auvier Bavon of the Federation Navy - 127.683 Research
- Hikemi Korrado of the Caldari Navy - 168.564 Research
- Heder Elislar of the Republic Fleet - 135.430 Research
- Ren Karetta of the Imperial Navy - 152.740 Research
- Guillome Renard who supports the Arek'Jalaan Project (Independents) - 106.505 Research
The State is now in the lead for research, but the Minmatar took a giant leap forward! Of the 5 competitors, the Amarr have lagged behind on acquiring new research data, showing the smallest increase over the days. Latest update:
- Caldari - 311,249
- Minmatar - 167,726
- Amarr - 155,789
- Gallente - 154,525
- Independants - 255,626
Caldari are firmly in the lead, followed by the Independants! This one last dash before the research drive ends today, will prove interesting, very interesting! The Minmatar did speed up considerably as well, placing them third, above the stalled Amarrian research group and the progressing Gallente. Final reports indicate a surge to approximately 3m in research points by the assorted CONCORD signatories, which I suspect will result in a marked increase in all factions. I'd be surprised if any particular faction ended up with below 650k points, given the presumed average of 750k per faction.

The final result is in!
- Independents lead by Guillome Renard - 287.232 Research - 5th place
- Gallente Federation Navy - 435.734 Research - 4th place
- Caldari State Navy - 767.014 Research - 3rd place
- Minmatar Republic Fleet - 857.310 Research - 2nd place
- Amarr Imperial Navy - 936.960 Research - 1st place
The Amarr prove to be once again masters of the galactic political game and slam down all opposition hard with their final contribution! The state, leading strong for days ended up on 3rd place, presumably because they felt safe because of their earlier strong lead... On the other hand, the Minmatar did one final strong push, allowing them to keep up with the Amarr in the tech race, an important point as they have to compete with them on the battlefield that is the Faction War.
What was this gathering of Sleeper data for? As it turns out, the Navies are working on a new variant of destroyers, utilizing sleeper tech. The change of Sleeper behaviour came at the right time in order to better understand this tech & hammer out the last few issues in the tech 3 destroyer designs!
You can read more about it here: 'The result of the YC116 Sleeper data research race!'

They did manage to keep a low profile after the first day. They were originally in the lead, but the very low activity in the days after caused the wrong assumption that Amarr had played it's hand early. Turns out, that in true Amarr style, it was merely a ruse to make the others focus attention away from them as they gathered their Sleeper data for one final rush from the backseat to the top of the pile! You're assuming more institutional plotting than there was. It certainly played out in Amarr's favor, but one shouldn't attribute too much deliberate, coordinated action on a freelance donation drive. From PIE's position, the withholding until the last day of our own corp donations was for several purposes: Verifying with Admiral Karetta that we could not make a corp contract and so had to gather our purchases onto a single representative (Admiral Ascentior, Hon. F.G.), and also to avoid prematurely pushing the Amarr donations up from 150k to 300k (as the Caldari did). At no point however was there any active coordination with the entire Amarr capsuleer community to "donate a little bit early and then save everything else to the end." |

I'm aware it wasn't a coordinated action to hold back, neither did I mention it was coordinated, but I do believe that most of the Amarr donators came early to the same conclusion as to keep donations for the last day, considering that the Amarr research pool grew the least between the initial day to the last update prior to the closure. The growth was so little compared to the rest that it did stand out. The result of the YC116 Sleeper data research race! A summary of the ancient civilizations of New Eden |
