Iv been playing this game for quite some time now, two weeks after release i believe. During the first few months lag was minimal and you could play the game as it was meant to be played.
When CA formed we could have 100 vs 100 fleet fights with 2s module lag and it would be awsome, you could get into a close range megathron and get into the middile of an enemy fleet and kill them without worrying about lag... but now
I play the game with one account sometimes and it freezes and or crashes, i also play with 2/3 account also, and quite frequently one account will freeze while the others are still playable and it might rotate through each of them - every account i have does it, randomly. Then theres the random crashes where im running 3 accounts and 1 account will drop while two are still playable.
Iv tried it on differant computers and the exact same thing happens, i have talked to people from the US (myself being UK) and the same happens to them...
So does anyone else experiance this? Is this a problem CCP have? ________ Euphoria Released

If it would be a structural problem you'd see many more posts on this as we have 20k players online on average. I think it's network problem, probably on your end. if you have more than one computer, check your routers and switches, they sometimes create similar problems, resetting them could help a lot, it if persists try another switch.
Also if you have other people on your network that use computers they invariably make use of torrent DL's or similar stuff. Doing that can create massive lag due to clogging your upload. Some friends I know have to cuss out roommates on a regular basis because they got some DL prog running while they know they shouldn't.
Looking for a corp? INCH caters for newer and the somewhat more relaxed, mature player. |

I have another computer which isnt connected to my router unless i manually connect it. Additionally iv run tracerts to the server IP and they all come up fine, while playing eve i dont download anything and i have a 8mb connection.
How could it be a local problem if US/Scottish/European players are all saying the same thing? ________ Euphoria Released

Additionally, if it was a local problem all 3 accounts would lock up/crash at the same time, not just one. ________ Euphoria Released

This happens to me and all those I know too as soon as they have more than one account active.
Disabling sound, sun occluded by ships, engine trails and turret effects helps a bit, but it doesn't fix the problem. Loads of RAM helps another bit.
It is pretty ugly when you have both accouns in a fight in the same system, next to each other and with corpmates around. It is kinda improbable that it is a local problem causing this. I think it might be an effect of some loadbalancing on the server network, kinda temporary disconnecting one of the clients. --*=*=*--

Thats exactly what i think it is. It must be somthing to do with the server sending two or three packets of information at a time to the same IP address.
Can we get CCP to check this plz? ________ Euphoria Released

Have you had a look in your event viewer after you experience lockups/crashes, would help to confirm whether it was a local software error or a connection/server issue.
Personally I run two accounts on one box, with trillian/itunes/outlook going, and I very rarely get lock ups and the kind of issues that you're describing :/
And when you say 'different computers' could you post some kind of specs these systems have ? Ie if you're using built-in lan chances are it'll be a realtek based chip, even if it's a different machine etc.

The borked client idles and it is sitting there doing nothing while the other client(s) are continuing to work as they should.
System resources are free. (RAM, CPU, HDD, ...) Webradio runs just fine and it is on very low priority.
The Network isn't congested. If that was the problem, all clients on the network would have problems and not a single client. --*=*=*--

I've had this happen too... any ideas on how to reproduce it? I only seem to recall it happening when a lot of stuff was happening (though that could have just been regular ole lag). --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

Happens to me as well. I run two accounts and frequently lose the connection to the second but not the first. It usually happens when the second account is in station and inactive.

i have this happening too, but my client hangs for 5-20 secconds +
this builds and happens more and more untill it disconnects while the other computer on the same network on the same router (wired in) has no issues what so ever.
i have a support ticket open on it, they first said it was my seccond sound card or i had the SDK version of DX9.0c
After disabeling one sound card (sound is even disabled in EVE) and reinstalling DX9.0c i am still having the exact same issue.

I run 3 accounts on the same machine as well as vent/ts.
On all 3 accounts sound is disabled and each account has its own installed set of files.
Sometimes one of the accouts will drop but its quite rare. I have 2gb of ram in the machine and do restart the clients if I know i am going into combat.

Thought i would also add it happens to me also with a single account up to 4 accounts on a single computer. There is no local cause to it and it seems like it just decides ok im bored im shutting one off to agrivate you and entertain myself.
Whats really a pain in the --- is when i have accounts sitting there waiting for skills to end. I walk over to the computer and see its still going and check the timer. Completion immenent so I stay and wait....and wait...and wait...ok whats up. Abort skill to see if restarting it will help. (Disconnected) screen pops up. Read a mail to find out when skill ended and come to find out it was over an hour ago. The other account is still connected working fine! :(

I wish there was a fix for this. Iv lost two ships to this bug now and iv tried almost everything. Iv used old DirectX version combined with old GFX drivers, run my PC with nothing but the nessisary things to run eve enabled.
Nothing seems to work, iv turned all GFX options off within EvE, put a higher RAM spec in the prefs.ini and nothing.
CCP plz look into this issue? ________ Euphoria Released

Edited by: Lorette on 14/08/2006 11:23:46 Last week or two ive been having alot of game freezes (i only use/have one account so nothing to do with 2 accounts going at once). Its nearly at the point where its unplayable at times.
There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it either, im generally in a system with just 10-30 players in it. Not really enough to cause this sort of lag.

This seems to happen pretty consistently to me. One hint is to keep an eye on the memory footprint. Typically when this happens , one of the clients memory consumption stays even, but another one goes nuts and starts trashing it's cache or something. Typically the memory consumption shoots up by over 100MBs, and personal record is going from 70MBs to 600 in one freeze sessions.
Can be bloody inconvenient, last time this happened I was sitting on HLW gate in Curse in a HAC and an interceptor pack came through and mugged it while I was still wondering wth is going on. At least got a refund out of it. I suspect something to do with bugged textures or texture caching or something.

Strange, I run 2 accounts, and with sound disabled I never ever had a crash, lockup or freeze.
Only thing I noticed is if you idle in station and have no channels open you get disconnected after some timeout.

I run 2 accounts on two seperate computers and never have any problem like what you describe.
If you are running all your accounts on one computer, that could very well be the root of the issue. A computer has a finite amount of rescources, and every once in a while, it's going to run out when trying to feed three clients with I/O operations.

Are you running both (or all three, or however many) accounts from the same install of EVE?
Because of the various bits of disk activity that go on (eg, chat logs, game logs, cached portraits and so on), I wouldn't surprise me if running EVE multiple times from the same install will result in one or more of the sessions 'locking up' (for various meanings of 'locking up').
Have you tried cloning your current EVE installation into a new folder and running the second account from that clone?
