Edited by: NeuroCyde on 13/08/2006 18:02:27 As the subject says along with battle I am planning to get into large scale industrial transport and shipping. Both of my own trade goods and mining bounty as well as corporate and private contracts.
What ships should I be looking to make my way through as I progress.
Right now I have fitting a Probe with a couple good cargo extenders and some large secure containers to maximize its volume and been mining.
But I would like to start doing larger mining operations and get into trading and transport.
Freighters, industrial ships, and transport ships are where I'm sure I need to be but any advice?
At this point I am looking at a Mammoth as I think I will be mostly in secure space. Later a transport like a Prowler.
I am Minmatar and would like to use my tribe's ships.

You answered your own question :) note however that there's 2 transport ships, the prowler is a gaterunner so better used in hairy situations like low sec, 0.0 and in war time. You'll find that the Mastodon is more useful in most other situations as high sec, high value hauling. Moreso than the Prowler.

Well at least I know I have been looking at the right info.
Cool man thx. Also as a side. I am going to use giant secure containers transported to site in the industrial ship to mining site and anchored to be filled by my mining ship and picked up later.
Looking through what is available to me it appears that a Rupture would be the best outfitted for a miner with 4 turret slots, lots of grid, and decent drone space.
Sound reasonable?

Yes, but if you plan on flying Caldari as well or plan on doing lots of mining the Osprey is a mining beast, for the low SP players who can't use barges yet.

For minmatar, the scythe is the best mining cruiser.
It may only have 3 turrets to the rupture's 4, but it has a bonus that gives a 20% boost to mining laser yield per level of minmatar cruiser.
So at level 5 it would mine as much as a ship with 6 turrets. ---------- My sig is boring. |

As an interim mining ship the scythe is good for minmatar, the ospry is excellent for Caldari. In both you can run several miner IIs and still have a weapon like an assault lancher that will let you solomine at least hi sec. If your serious about mining you need to train for a mining barge, and if you go barge you need to get at least the second one, the first only has room for one stripminer and its not worth the training time to go that far and stop there.
In terms of hauling, get into an industrial. They dont require much training, haul huge amounts of cargo, and are cheap. I Think everyone should have one in their fleet. It also makes tradegood speculation worthwhile, which is a good way for new characters to make money with little risk (just use the map and check the route before you buy). Untill you have a mining barge I think you can generate more ISK per hour with a good industrial and a sharp eye on the market than you can breaking rock in high sec.
Transports are nice, but are very expensive for non-combat craft, and honestly if you hit a serious pvp threat your still dead. IMHO a indy and a corp mate to recon beats a transport.
Freighters are ungodly expensive, but being able to fly one gives you a unique place in a corporation. (The cheif ops officer of my corp once offered to have the childern of anyone who could pilot one for us.) Freighters are capital ships, have insanely huge cargo holds, and are immune to warp jamming and interdictor bubbles. Incredibly useful for low sec an 0.0.
Hope some of that helps.

It really depends on what you're hauling in high sec though. If you're trading in bulk where you'd like to haul as much as possible, then Mastodon would be good. If you're trading higher priced items like T2 mods where space isn't as much of an issue as the ammount of isk you have to invest, then I'd recommend the Prowler. Faster when approaching gates. Even if you have instas to all the gates, having the 9Au/s warp speed of an interceptor makes the trade runs go by quickly. I'm really happy with my Prowler.

Edited by: Caleb Paine on 13/08/2006 21:39:17 Might be true as such but I expect people to haul expensive goods using insta's but you're right ofcourse, to each his own. The main reason for the Masto is the sheer amount of shield HP it has and the number of low slots. Shield tanking haulers really have it best because some have a lot of low slots you can configure exactly the way you want/need. Any combination of expanders, nanofibers or warpstabs can be used to fit the ship for a specific journey. I always travel with a full rack of these modules in my cargo so I can shift around the low slots whenever needed.
So I prefer shieldtanking haulers with a lot of low slots for just that reason.
