Hi there, i've been fighting alot of Angels lately, both in belts and on missions. Even though it's been going pretty good, i would still like to see if there is anything i can do to improve my 'game'.
So I was wondering, what ammo is most usefull against these npc's? So far i've been using Fusion due to it's high explosive damage, but recently i noticed that it's base shield damage is only 4.4, and angels have a tendency to shield tank. So i started looking at other ammo types and ended up having a closer look on EMP ammo.
The EMP ammo does half the explosive damage the Fuision does, but have a higher base shield damage output, but only slightly less base armor damage.
So what should i go for, Fusion or EMP?
Cheers, Nar

Why not use both? Use EM and then swap your ammo out once the shields are gone?

I guess that could work when fighting against cruiser sized and bigger enemies. But the reload would be pretty pointless against frigs, and atm i face ten times as many frigs as cruisers.

There both good choices. I tend to prefer fusion but EMP seems to work just as well.

On ships with a couple of guns you can use 1/3 with EM and the rest with Fusion - and swap targets once the shield's gone.
T2 projectile ammo rips Angels a new one in no time flat. --*=*=*--
Even with nougat, you can have a perfect moment. |

Only Fusion against Angels, nothing else (except you are forced to attack from very long distance, in this case Nuclear might be better).
The information about the "Base shield damage" is misleading. "Base shield damage" is related to a "Base shield tank", that means a tank with the "default" resistances (0% EM, 20% Thermal, 40% Kinetic, 60% Explosive). If your enemy has these resists, EMP ammo would be better to break its shields. But Angels don't have a base shield tank. Their shields are hardened against EM and thermal damage and weak against explosive and kinetic. Example: Angel Crusher's shield resists: EM: 53 % Thermal: 43% Kinetic: 33% Explosive: 23% (By the way: They have exactly the same armor resistances.)
Result: Against Angel's armor AND shields explosive ammo does the most damage and EM ammo the least.

angles sheild tank..and EMP is best to beat the sheild tank... onces through the shilds the armor go really fast... I have used them all but EMP seems to work the best for me.

NPCs don't work like player ships. Best damage type against angels is explosive, both on their shield and armor.
All sources i have seen that use data from the database dump confirm this, like this one Battle Clinic NPC database or the npc browser in quickfit.

It works well enough because EMP has decent explosive damage, not because of their shield resists.
Fusion will work even better most of the time. Tends to be cheaper than EMP too. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

While we're on the subject of angel rats, what are good resists against them, explosive and kinetic? Cause I have no em resist atm and I'm wondering if that will get me killed.

Most angels do explosive/kin. But in each shipclass theres are odd ones that do heat or em damage (Check that battleclinic link to find out or browse in an other database)

Explosive damage do more towards angel NPC shields then emp does. Just look at the raw data exports.

Angel Saints and Seraphins (spelling ???) and other high bounty Angel BS rats do other damage than exp/kin. Saints do thermal damage on top of exp/kin if I recall right.
edit: added "Angel" to "BS rats"

Fusion, nothing else.
And yes, harden vs everything if you're gunning for high-bounty spawns and officers.
Some of them do some nasty EM/TH too, not a big deal if you're armor tanking, but for example on a raven I would go EM II, TH II and 2x Invuls to hunt angels.
