I've read the thread from the sticky with some Cormorant setups in it, but they mostly required high-skills. I was wondering, can this can be a good ship for solo-PvP with low skills?
Here's the setup I made (it's mostly from rat loot, I didn't pay for this stuff :P)
High: 3 * 150mm 'scout' /w Antimatter 3 * 75mm 'scout' /w Lead 1 * 75mm compressed /w Lead
Medium: 3 * ECM Multispectral 1 * J5 Prototype Warp Inhibitor
Low: Co-Proccesor
What kinds of ships will I be able to take down, alone, with this setup, if any? Should I remove 1 Multispec and put a web instead?
Put into consideration that my Electronics and Engineering are only 3.

7x 125mm rails
1mn AB 1 Medium Shield Extender 2x rat specific hardeners
Micro aux power core
You probably can't fit this without better skills in electronics, engineering, weapons upgrade, advanced weapon upgrade and shield upgrade, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. ____________________________ Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content - Cortes |

Rat specific hardeners? I was asking about an Anti-Player setup, not a ratting setup.

Edited by: Xantina on 14/08/2006 10:51:39 Low skill solo pvp in a destroyer ? Unlikely. You'd probably fare better (and cheaper) in a frigate, especially since you ought to be able to fly a Kestrel if you're in a Cormorant. Destroyers are specialists, they are decend for newbies who like some more cargo room on their lvl 1 missions (not all races have a fighting boxcar like the Kestrel, 130 m¦ on a combat frigate is more common) but other than that, they're really only good with high skills for limited roles, such as popping frigates at range. For this purpose there are really only 2 destroyers, the Cormorant for it's long range, and the Thrasher because of it's alphastrike. I equipped a Thrasher with T2 arties for fun and they do pretty good damage. I can't use t2 hybrids so I equipped 150 mm named rails instead on a Cormorant. The difference in damage is pretty significant. If you want to solo PVP my advice would be: try a Kestrel with some good standard missile launchers.

You're right, it eats my cap :x I can replace the regular multispecs with induced multispecs, though, which should allow me to run all multispecs for 20 seconds, and the warp inhibitor for as long as I want.
If I fit a cap booster instead of one of the multispecs I'll only have 8.8 jamming strength... what kind of ships will I actually be able to reliably jam with that?

5x 150mm Railgun 2x 125mm Railgun
1x Web 1x 20km Scrambler 2x EW Mods (Racial jammers/tracking disruptors)
1x Mag Stab II
Cormorant really lost it's place in solo PvP when Sensor Damps and other EW got their cap usage bumped up to the point where it's impossible to sustain

Edited by: Clais Monaige on 14/08/2006 12:13:25 - In a Cormorant i'd purely would go for range, so forget about warp scrambler/disruptor. - Fit as many 125mm Rails as possible - At least AB to stay at distance - Only one multispec or replace jammer by racials - in the low i'd fit a range-module (tracking enhancer?), gives more range which is very needfull when using t1 weapons/ammunition. - Optionally fit additional Tracking Computer for more range
Don't fit a mwd or tank, it's impossible imho. Destroyer should defend themselves by destroying threats (=reducing damage), not by boosting shields or so.
So my conclusion Highs: 7x 125mm Railguns, best you can fit (T2 if possible) Mids: 1x AB, 1x Multispectral ECM, 2x Tracking Computer Lows: 1x Tracking Enhancer
But i guess it requires quite high skills to fit even 7 guns on it. Try it with Quickfit
Btw: i managed to flee from an interceptor with low skills (i surely would've lost my Cormorant if i hadn't fled) and only one Multispec; iirc i fought against a Crow. But besides - my Cap was nearly drained by the multispec and warp disruptor _____________________________ - be excellent to each other -

Originally by: Derblut Well then, what skills should I aim for first to be able to use the Destroyer better?
Weapons Upgrades - Most good setups are extremely tight on CPU and Grid. Advanced Weapons upgrades is also a prereq for HACs and a Good Thing (TM) once you start to fitting powerhogs like large turrets and torpedo launchers on your battleship.
For the same reason: Engineering 5, Electronics 5 - add Mechanics 5 and you're ready for an AF too.
T2 weapons - it makes all the difference, using a t2 gun with t2 ammo is much better than using a named t1 with t1 ammo. Using a named t1 gun with t2 stats and t1 faction ammo with t2 stats is an alternative but THAT is even more expensive than using t2. For solo PVP cruisers (Caracal for example) or t2 frigates are a good choice.

I've tried out the cormorant as newbie pirate bait and it was quite fun. Pirates expect destroyers to be pushovers so when you fit it decently they can get quite a surprise. However they are still very fragile so can't take out more than T1 frigs, or in a gang of 2 you could quite easily take down interceptors.
Cormorant 7x125mm rails 1xAB 2xMultispec ECM 1x20km scrambler 1xCap relay
You really need good cap skills for this ship as ECMs just eat it up.

replacing a multispec with something else means you'll have two chances to jam instead of three, the thing to remember about EW is that fitting more modules only gives you another chance to roll the dice each activation.
i'd say you'd have pretty good chances to jam out frigate sized stuff, maybe other destroyers. it'd be a bit more risky against cruisers and above though.

7 125 mm tech II's 3 tracking comps ( best you can find, go all out on these or get tech II's) sensor booster or small shield extender mag stab in low use antimatter, you get over 20km optimal with dessy 5 and sharpshooter 5
long range low skill: 7 150mm tech II's spike ammo 2 tech II tracking comps 2 sensor booster tech II MAPC use with a buddy for alpha strike on inties.
long range higher skill: ( requires AWU 4 at least )
6 tech II 150 mm spike ammo 2 tech II sensor boosters 2 tech II tracking comps Mag stab II
I think the last one fits, I am training Adv weapon upgrades soon to 4.
IMHO you really need very good gunnery skills to get decent with a dessy in PvP. Stay AWAY from caldari and Gallente assault frigs in cormies. unless you got 4-5 of them pounding on them, you won't break there tank in time.
