My main has been around a while and is looking to do some exploring of 0.0, but is a bit scared of getting blown up.
Since she has a few hundred mil implanted into her fragile dome, she would like to have a jump clone to go exploring the wondrous recesses of space. Unfortunately, she is a member of a very friendly and nice corp that is empire-based and has no chance in hell of getting high enough standings to have an empire-installed JC.
Is there a way to resolve this so that I can get my feet wet in 0.0 without getting my precious cyber-ware vaporized all over the galaxy?

Either buy standings with an allaince with an outpost (although there is a decent danger of being podded on the way out there).
Or join an empire corp that has the required standings (you will need either 0 personal standing or 8+ with the npc corp you are trying to install at). You can quit your current corp for a few minutes, join the jumpclone corp and install all you want.
If for some reason you already have standing with every single npc corp... you are boned.

You mention standing toward an NPC corp. I was under the impression that it was the faction standing that matters. Can somebody confirm which it is-a faction is a lot harder to bump up than a corp obviously?

Easiest way. Pick something like caldari navy. mission***** till you have a personal standing of 8.0 with them. Now if you are in a corp, leave it. You are now in an npc corp. Head for a (in this case a caldari navy) station with a medical bay. Create jump clone. Fly in a shuttle to where you want your implanted clone to while away the hours, then jump to your new clone.
I have 2 jump clones and i¦m less than two months old.

It's towards the corp who owns the station where you wish to install the jump clone (the "target" corp), not the faction.
And you need your personal and your corp standing at 8.0, but a freak of standings is that if you have no standings at all, then you don't need personal standings since you use only the corp's standing towards the target.
Hence, you can join a corp that has 8.0+ standing with a target corp. If you don't have any standings whatsoever with the target corp, you're all good to install jump clones immediately.
