Have you noticed a distinct lack of outright beggars in EVE? Even in noob channel on my alt, although there is some asshattery, some flamewars and general Internet social norms, there is a distinct lack of begging.
I can't recall the last time someone said "can i haev isk pls."
I can't recall the last time someone said "ned money 4 ship."
Granted, I might hear "what is best ship pls!" but that's a different story altogether.
So, are we in agreement? We're missing a lot of the beggars that plague most MMOs?

I think it's because local chat is relatively dead. But yeah, I've heard a few beggars, but not very many.

Long time ago, EVE had more beggars. Usually, I told them that if they wanted limitless isk for minimal effort, just visit "Mr. Veldspar."
The kicker is that the next question was often "WHER IS MR VELDSAR"

Okay I do admit we get dense people, though. Not just the "what is best ship" but the "how much does X cost" and they get angry when you say "it depends."
Worst case I saw was "how much is to hire fraiter" and when we mentioned freighter pilots are human beings and to talk to one about price he said "HOW MUCH IS HIRE FRAITER"

Back in the good old times of Ultima Online, beggar was a profession, you could become Grandmaster beggar like mage, blacksmith and whatnot.
Some chap in my guild made Grandmaster beggar, and it wasn't an easy task!

Depends on your location, hardly ever going into high-sec i never see it. But im sure its common in the noob-station systems.

I used to go all old man "get off my lawn", and "i had to walk to school, uphill, both ways!", and "you don't know the meaning of hard work" in my noob corp. Still do when someone begs. I do drop tips every now again. 1 million ISK here or there for those that need it.

There's a simple reason why people beg in online games:
There are precious few instances where one player is able to put another to work, especially a casual acquaintance, in a fashion they could not do for themselves with merely a little less efficiency.
People are heavily conditioned to expect a bourgeois society, and quite a few are not immediately certain what to do when they join a "corporation" that expects them to take advantage of opportunities to provide for themselves in between bouts of spending their own sums to protect the corp's interests. If the members aren't fools, and the corp is established around a sound program, then the corp's interests are limited to actions which enrich the employees and the shareholders directly.
Begging in EVE doesn't make much sense for a new player however. I have seen more Directors that are beggars than new players from a capitalistic perspective.
Republic Fleet phases out obsolete Vigils.
