I'm on day 8 of my 14 day trial. And I'm enjoying it quite a lot. I have been spending most of my time doing level 1 combat missions, and that seems to work well for me right now. Except for one: Worlds Collide. So far, the tally is NPC 2 - Me 0 on that one...
I've read a couple of forum descriptions on this mission, but they are usually geared towards higher level, or maybe I am just to stupid to understand them . Does someone have any tips on how to survive, and maybe even finish, this mission in level 1? Or perhaps even a walkthrough for complete n00bs? I'm currently in a Punisher with 3 Medium Beam Laser 1, a little extra shield and Overdrive injecter 1 for a little extra speed if that has any influence.

Bring some friends ;)
I find this mission difficult even with a destroyer... there are just to many rats shooting at you to make it viable to solo

Edited by: Sonya Rayner on 16/08/2006 07:04:00 i'd use this setup on punisher:
3x Medium Pulse Laser (small nosferatu if pwg left) 1x 1MN ab, Cap recharger 1x Small Armor Repairer (named preferably), 1x energized magnetic membrane, 1 energized kinetic membrane, 1x energized adaptive nano membrane (or cap power relay)
and try going through cartel base, i found that rats there are simplier.
if still can't do it, ask some friends for help (i myself helped some completely unknown ppl with this mission).
also you may try to break through to next gate w/o killing rats in first pocket - the next pocket is the goal and rats there are weak.
and remember - only frigs & destroyers may pass through gate (and their tech 2 variants also - interceptors, assault ships and interdictors)

Yah, it's definitely the roughest of the L1 missions.
Since the object is to rescue the stranded pilots deeper in (not necessarily to kill all opposition), it is possible to simply bypass most the enemy ships by hightailing it to the next gates and jumping through. You'll still take damage most times, passing through, but no extended combat.
This mission is also a good testing ground for whether you've got the knack of resistances and ammunition, btw. Maybe you already know, but here it is anyways.
There are certain NPC groups (say Gurista, for this example) which typically use ammunition that cause Kinetic & Thermal damage. Knowing this, you can add modules to your ship to counter (reducing; not eliminating) the incoming weapon-fire. Depending on whether you absorb damage to your shields or armour, there will be a suitable module that will significantly reduce damage from a given damage type.
The NPCs in question are typically more vulnerable to the same damage that they dish out. Finding appropriate rounds of Kinetic or Thermal ammo to use (on Gurista, anyways) will bring their destruction faster. Tactics may need to be adjusted with a given ammo type, as the different kinds have other variables (such as range) going on, too.
You may need to train a skill or three to use the resistance modules, but you will find they add enormously to your survival when the odds are stacked against you. (You'll need them later, regardless)
There are several charts & guides on the forums, as well as in my ingame Bio, to check up on. _______

Edited by: Still Standing on 16/08/2006 07:27:01 The first two occasions i tried this i lost my ships. The key for me was getting through the second area before my ship got hammered. I learnt Afterburn skill to 2 or 3 and fitted an 1mn ab, plus a shield repairer. Enter the first gate.Once you warp through aim for the left hand side gate (the one without a cloud behind it) My ship still got hammered but i had enough time to warp through to the last area. Here i just kept my distance whilst repairing, picking off the any thing that came within targeting range. Good luck

as with punisher, you should go for armor tanking and not shield, since punisher gets bonuses for armor resistances and it has plenty of lowslots for some tank

I managed to do it easily with a Rifter fitted with two missile launchers and an AfterBurner.
I used the AfterBurner to stay at 17km range and snipped them with light missiles. Skipped those that I could avoid by getting quickly to the gates.
Took less than 30 minutes to complete the mission.

I love this mission, my favorite of them all... IÆve found there are 3 ways to win.
One, Clear each deadspace pocket (Hard) Two, Kill only those that get to you before you get a chance to jump through the gate to the next pocket. (Easy) Three, Pack your ship with over drives and a after burner. Over drives dont use any CPU or cap as far as I can remember so fit as many as you wish. I have gotten my little Rifter to go 1kms with just overdrives and an after burner. (Not as easy but still easy)
Remember that you CAN NOT warp in deadspace so donÆt worry about using a micro warpdrive
I found that you well lose ships doing this mission at all levels so donÆt take any thing you canÆt afford to replace (i.e. tech 2: ships, ammo, mods)

One tactic that I have used is best with a destroyer. I'm Gallente so I use the Catalyst, which has 8 turret slots. I fit 3-4 75mm rail guns and 3-4 125mm guns and vary the ammo to get the range that I want, then 1 short range blaster. I fly in with 90-95% capacitor left so that I have enough for shield & armor repair if I need it. I get close enough for my long range guns to get their attention and stop my ship in place. I fire on them until they are at a comfortable range for my other guns then fly off at 180¦ from where i was so that they are chasing me. This way 7 of my 8 guns can fire on them at range. If they get close enough I let loose my blaster. You can pick them off one by one and I usually start with the hardest in the group.
Like the others have said, you don't have to kill them all. With an AB you can reach the final area with only having to kill 2 enemies along the way. World's Collide is one of the best missions that I have found. The Mordus Head Hunter is another that pays out well.

Punisher should be able to complete this mission no problem - remember it is a rescue mission.
You should be able to do this with just a basic armor tanking setup. Highs = 3 pulse + nos, mids = AB + cap recharger, low = Armor Repairer + 3 Cap Power Relay
Ignore hostiles in the first area. Active your armor tank before jumping into the second area, even if you still have full shields. On jumping in to the second area you may well take a fair amount of damage. Ignore all the ships and fly straight to the acceleration gate as fast as possible and jump to the third area. Kill the 3 closest ships to the Damaged Heron container, pick up the crew and warp back to agent. 20 minutes is all it should take. ------------------------------------------------ Just because your not paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you! |

The key to Worlds Collide is to read the briefing. It tells you that you don't need to kill anything except the rats guarding the disabled ship (3 easy rats). How much you have to fight depends on which gate you select to start. In the Caldari version, go in the Cartel gate. Ignore the rats and afterburn your way to the next gate. Ignore the rats in this pocket and afterburn your way to the third gate. You'll see the disabled Heron. It will have 3 rats guarding it. There will be another group of rats. Ignore the second group. Kill the guards and collect the crew and warp out. Piece of cake.

The most important thing with this mission is being able to take the damage they're going to concentrate on your ship.
Use damage specific shield hardeners and use mods to make your ship as fast as your skills and wallet will allow.
However, I think it took me more than 2 weeks to be able to solo this one.

Level 1 worlds collide is actualy one of the easiest and quickest missions to run if you know what to do. It does not require extensive skill points or top end tier 1 gear on your frigate to do. Destroyers are not needed, in fact are probably harder to use as they are slower.
The first time I passed it, it was in a merlin with a civy ab, shield booster 1, and two shield extender 1s. It's even easier with a proper AB.
The names of the gates vary depending on which faction you are doing the quest for, I've found. Right when you warp in, go straight for the jump gate on the left (for Caldari it's the cartel base). Do not pass go, collect 200 isk, or stop to get your girl flowers. Just get to the gate and use it.
Similarly, in the second room, go straight for the research gate. You'll probably have two ships in close range to you when you warp in; feel free to dispach them, but don't stop moving for the gate. This takes you to the final room with the damaged heron.
This room is fairly easy to clear compared to the first two. Go ahead and kill the ships in here, though I recomend not getting too close to the damaged heron at first, as it will agro the second pack of ships.
Loot the damaged heron, warp out, collect easy money.
At first, this mission is very difficult. Once you figure it out, you would rather get this mission every time as it is the best payout per time spent of all the level 1 missions.

Worlds Collide L1 is one of the fastest ways to make money as a newb.
1. Don't kill any room 1 NPC's. Just learn which one is the easy gate, and take it. 2. Don't kill any room 2 NPC's. Run fast as you can to the research gate. AB, nanos/overdrive injectors. 3. Kill however many room 3 NPC's you want to. They're easy.
Once you get the trick, you can complete this in under 10minutes. Hardly any SP's required to fly fast.
There's your spoiler.

As many have said the fastest way to do this mission is ... to be fast.
I loaded a kestrel with: 2 missle launchers Small Cap Battery 1MN Afterburner Overdrive injector
Was able to move at a very nice speed.
Always pick the left jump gate, its the one where you stand the most chance of surviving. Speed to the gate, jump through, select the 2nd gate and speed to it. Don't even bother fighting anyone who is not directly in your way. Jump through the 2nd gate, you will come out, right on top of the bad guys. Take your time and try to draw a few away at a time and pick them off on your terms.
Once you have killed all the guys in the 3rd area, save the ships crew and warp back to your agent.
Speed makes this mission enjoyable. ------------------------------------- Sammael's Legion |

The rats in this mission generally have fairly short range. You can kill them all with impunity by using an afterburner to keep the range long - 20km seems to work well - and picking them off at your leisure. I've it more times than I can count in a Cormorant (Caldari destroyer) whose range bonuses make outranging the rats trivially easy.

I've also failed this mission a couple of times now, though at least I managed to keep my Rifter on the most recent try. The last poster's comment made me wonder: could I stand off and use missiles to clear the first couple rooms, or is that unrealistic?

Edited by: Mr Vee on 20/08/2006 10:26:18 I don't really understand what's the fuss about this mission? I was kinda expecting to die when I got this mission, but it was really easy. I just warped through the first two gates without killing any pirates, killed 3 of em in the last room, picked up the soldiers and warped out for base. 200k+ isk in about 5 minutes.
This is with a tristan, only module I have is 2x missile launchers, 2x railgun and an armor repair module.
Did I just get lucky?

I'm not quite sure why you are losing ships though. The first time I tried this, I used a cormorant (tech 1 caldari destroyer), and went through the "bad" gate (the one on the right in the second area). I started getting hammered like mad, but still had time to click on a space station and warp out. At that point I had both armour and shield boosters running, so my cap was a little dry, but I made it out of the area.
On the second attempt, I used the other gate, and where you warp there, you will only draw a few ships at first. I just flew away from the large group and dragged those few NPC's with me until I nailed 'em. I pulled the rest out, bit by bit. Wasn't too hard.
By the way, you are allowed to decline a mission every 4 hours with no penalty. Won't help you now, but when you get this mission again...

This one ticked me off SO much. I lost a Merlin the first time round, but that was because I was careless and I can't really complain. Me and my friend BOTH got this mission, so we decided to do it together (since the pirate mob spawns are a bit... well, uber) took us the best part of the bonus time. (I completed it again with a Merlin.) And there wasn't enough crew members to rescue... :( Waited around for a bit and they didn't spawn again.

hmmm...did I get lucky then??
Room #1, I tried a dirty trick...I flew towards one group of pirates, and then when they started locking, flew to the other. Low and Behold it turned into a vicious furball with everyone firing at everyone. I knocked a few out and hit the gate...
Room #2, no real challenge - Afterburners, 2 125mm rails and 2 launchers...there were a coupla fighters that stood up for a while, but I wasn't really scratched that badly.
Room #3, was a pig but I managed to grab the container and jump out. Coupla rats got a bit close and were toasted.
I've been playing for 5 days now, and that was my first run at it.

Ok, did this mission twice with my new alt over the weekend. 2 days old. 120k sp. The setup looks like this
Skills: 4 Gallente frig 1 everything else, barely enough to fit the setup below
Ship: Incursus 3xhybrid blasters(whatever fits) 1 AB - monopropellant hydrazine 1 small shield extender not named 1 small shield booster not named 2xnano not named
That's it, nothing fancy. If you treat it like a rescue mission, you only really have to kill 3 NPCS. They are the ones that aggro you in the third room. For everything else just hit the AB and activate gate soon as you're in range.

This is the single best advice that could be given for this mission! I lost my ship the first time I did the mission by accidentally going in the right hand gate; going through the left hand gate, the mission was a breeze. Kill the rats in the second and third rooms for ISK and loot, I say.
[BTW, I felt pretty dumb about this, but I was very confused by these "rooms" that people kept talking about; as it turns out (for those few of you who haven't asked or figured it out yet), a room refers to the region that the gates take you to. The newb that I am, I was hoping that the gates would take me to a gigantic cavern or some complex to fly through. Now that would be cool and add some variety to the scenery!]
