if you are going to be gone for 12 months straight without having access to a PC? Im not going to pay for a whole years subscription but i don't want to lose all the progress i will(hopefully) have made by then.

i think i read recently that they guarantee the characters for 6 months at least, but i think that same post said they haven't done any purges, but i'm sure someone more informed will be able to give more accurate times.

I'm 99.9% sure you can stop your account and come back later whenever you want. Dont feel like looking to add that .1%

Alright, well i wouldn't want to gamble it and 6 months wouldn't cut it(IF they do purge them ever). Hopefully i can work something out with the devs when the time comes.

To date, CCP has never deleted an account, and they've said that themselves. 
Talk to some of the people who left in '03 and came back only recently if you're still not convinced.

Yes, CCP has yet to delete an actual account and its been 3 years now. But I wouldn't gamble on it. You can try to contact them if you want more specific info or accomodations.
Also, remember that skills continue to train while your account is inactive. But only that last level set to train. It won't automatically move to another skill or level. You need to log in to do that.
