Just a quick post to give some of you a laugh about a kill i got the other day. So i'm hopping around in a blaster mega when i scan a raven in a belt on it's own. i swoop in a start blasting away. surprisingly his shields are melting real quick and he's soon popped. When i check the can and killmail i break down in a fit of laughter at the guy's setup. bearing in mind this guy is a year and a half old player, i found his setup went something like this (missing a few things)
Highs - 2 x 425mm rail guns 2 x 1400 artillery 1 heavy missile launcher 1 seige missile launcher
mids - 3 cap rechargers 1's sensor booster something else
lows - medium armour repairer 1 small hull repairer 1 something else
I don't like smack but i had to have a quick chuckle at him in local. why would somebody murder a nice ship like this.
annoying this is i love solo killing bs as it can always turn around on u but i really don't feel i can be proud of killing this comical ship.
So i ask, have any of you ever fought against a setup that can beat this one

Either that or it's just someone who created the character 1 + year ago, played a month and quit, and now are back - just fitting what it could in the nearest station.

Ok i will admit this one. back in the day when i had only 2m skill points i got my very first raven.
I thought i would help out my corp as they wanted to do a bit of mining out in 0.0. The problem was, the only ship i had was the raven. So i fit it out with all the mining lasers i can get on it and the rest of the high slots were missiles ( i think 4 lasers and 4 missiles). Mid slots were something like sensor boosters, xlarge shield boosters, MWD....
basically the raven was a mess.
Well i head out to 0.0 and get stopped in HED by a scorpion. He locks onto me and target jams me, then demands that i pay him some money. Well me being new to the game still and spending all my isk on a raven, i was kinda broke.
So i have no option but to say "tough" and explain that i'm not paying him anything even though i'm in mining gear.
I switch to fof missiles and we go at it for a while.
Eventually i think that i'm a gonner if i stick around, so i warp to a planet, bring back my shields and warp back to the gate again. We fight again at which point he has to warp off due to his scorpion is about to explode.
I leave HED and think to myself "how the hell did i manage to win a fight with a scorpion when i wasn't kitted to fight at all and i never even used my drones" I also wondered why he never warp scrammed me.
so sometimes even a completely messed up ship can win a fight...if the target is useless.

Yeah i think your idea is probably most likely. i have killed 7 ravens in the last 2 weeks and only 1 has actually made me run my rep more than a couple of times. very sad time.
Are you permitted to post links to killboards with the kill on btw? wasn't sure whether i should or not

OK, I reckon my first ever VIGILANT setup as a 5 week old player beats that! Looking at it now makes me wanna cry and im struggling to remember my exact reasons for it. As far as i can recollect, i was planning to run the 0.4 plex in Covryn and i thought it would be an awesome idea to cover a selection of ranges!

Why laugh? Thats why the ships come with empty slots instead of pre-configured ones.
You get to choose what you want/like. You may laugh at him cuz you chose a better setup or because he chose a poor one.
Rest assured, there is someone out there that can pick better set-ups than you and will one day blow you up and laugh at your set-up.

rofl tityana that's brilliant
To the above who thinks i shouldn't be laughing. i'm guessing u don't pvp much. my setup is pretty dam good and is used by many of the top blasterthron pilots in game but yeah it may be beaten but at least i look at the dam bonuses a ship gets and use them. and at least i fit for an actual engagement range. and an actual tank on a bs helps a little too.
your not his alt by any chance are you?

I love the line at the top of your chat box.
Ah well, I can't laugh. When I started out my fittings were absolutely dire. Thankfully I didn't have the embarassment of ever taking them into PvP, or I'd probably have never lived the killmails down.

Just to clarify - although I'm in private chat with Tityana in her Vigilant screenie, I had nothing to do with that setup!!! LoL (no offense JG)
I've had some NOOB setups back in the day but I'm too ashamed to post them. I had a fitted ship when I was a noob that just kinda got left in a station when I moved away, then coming back a year later I found it, openened the fittings window and OMGWTFNooB !!!!! Hehehehe

i still hate it when i look at my profile on killboards i use and it shows setups of ships that i got killed in years ago. wish i could just delete them.
and belhorn i can in no way imagine the great tityana coming up with setups like that so must hold you completely responsible i'm afraid

When my corp was brand spanking new we, like many newbs, figured we'd be pirates....we moved past that but not before some odd times.
To this day I have no idea what exactly took place, but a 3 weeks old caldari using AC's and a Rifter (he'd been training minmatar skills for all of 3 days) managed to beat the crap out of a Ferox. Not only that but when the guy claimed he had no ransom as he'd just bought implants and to please, please not kill him a deal was made.
Pax left in a rifter. He flew back in a ferox with the worst load out ever. It was amazing

Poor fittings when your a newbie is one thing. We all do it, or most of us do it, the smart ones read the ships forums and use one of the cookie cutter set ups there, at least thats what I did in my first mounth.
But personally, I feel obligated to point and laugh at older players who have fittings that are simply out of this world. What seperates us from the animals, is the ability to mock other people for thier mistakes.

really? don't remember that. never actually used them so wouldn't have noticed. it wasn't destroyed so saw it in the can and presumed it was still low slot. still funny where ever it is. It's also funny seeing his destroyed items in his cargo on the killmail. antimatter L, EMP L, bane torps, scourge heavies. must have been kinda full with all that different ammo

When I first got my Caracal I had no idea how to fit it. I tryed things like filling it with 4 Large F-S9 extenders. Putting sensor boosters and all kinds of different launchers. It just takes time to learn what works and what is a very s**t set up.

Yes, I will acknowledge in advance that I am new to EVE, coming back to it after a 3-month absence (I only played it for two weeks before originally leaving because of lag/disconnects).
I got jumped in a .4 system about a week ago, flying an Arbitrator with a very, very, very bad setup.
High: - 2x 250mm railgun I - Standard Missile Launcher I
Medium: - Cap Recharger I - Civilian Shield Booster I - Civilian Shield Booster I - 10mn afterburner
Low: - Power Diagnostic System I - Expanded Cargohold I - Expanded Cargohold I - 400mm nanofiber plates I
It was only by the grace of whatever God protects us unfortunate newbies that I scrambled out of there, with well over a 200k ISK in damage. (Not to mention that the capacitor didn't have enough energy to take me as far as the stargate back to a .6 system, so I had to stop and recharge en route.)
I learned some expensive lessons, courtesy of a Thorax. Number one is "don't revisit .4 space without a better setup."
