Ok so awhile back the computer i built myself finally keels over and dies. My parents decided that it was probably for the best that i just get a new computer. After looking around i go with a gateway that is a good deal and has a duel core amd. ANYWAY the issue is that it has Windows XP media whatever edition. This includes a hook up so that i can watch TV on my computer. Sweet i think, except that it constantly stops and stutters and doesnt work.
I figure it cant be my ram, i have 2 gigs of ram. The CPU is 64bit duel core AMD 2.4 GHZ. The weak part is that it just has the built in 6200 GeForce as i couldnt put my old one in b/c this has a PCI 16 port and no AGP. So recently i purchased a Geforce 6800 450 Overclocked 512mb graphics card. My EvE performance and all other games gaudruples. But the tv still has issues (however it appears to be less). Any ideas? I've started searching for new drivers with little luck and im not sure what else could be causing the issue. Any help that works would be EXTREMELY useful (read: free falcon). --------------- RIP - Smoske, My Friend

Eh something like that, im really tired. The new port instead of AGP or PCI made specifically for graphics cards. --------------- RIP - Smoske, My Friend

1. PCI-X?
2. Anyway, are you using a TV Tuner card or your TV is internet-TV?
3. I assume you are using Media Player to watch. Try this. Go to Tools/Options/Performance. Click Advanced. Turn off Overlays. --------- In the blindness, a streak fiery thread violently cuts the horizon. Bleeding golden mists, engulfing the blindness from within. Burning the darkness. I am using a tuner and using the Media Center, not Media Player (media center is program for watching tv, movies and other things) that comes with this version of XP. --------------- RIP - Smoske, My Friend

I think there may be some settings with overlays somewhere in Media Center. Try to find where they are and play around with them. Could be an overlay problem.

Edited by: Dark Shikari on 19/08/2006 18:42:44 Have you tried MythTV? Its a free, open-source TV-tuning-and-recording program, which, from what I heard, is vastly superior to Windows Media Center.

check the connection, see if the hook up is secure. also you could just have a defective port on your comp. its more likely a wrong setting, i'd try and help, but i've never used media center edition.

Trying all these things. The MythTV is way too complicated for me, but otherwise some good stuff. Still sorting thru those sites and the links they have. Moving into my appartment at college tomorrow so will have to give it a rest till then, but still thanks for all the help so far. --------------- RIP - Smoske, My Friend

Long story short; sounds like a weak signal. Is your TV card hooked up to the main aerial for your house, or a weak little indoor aerial? Either way, I usually see this at work in instances where there's a weak signal.

Stab in the dark -
Have you tried using these: http://www.omegadrivers.net/nvidia/win2k_xp.php Read the notes to check they're compatible first!
Don't know if this is the issue (you have upgraded the GC after all).
When it stops/stutters, does the image 1) stay on screen but freezes (and then has to catch up with itself),
or 2) does the image drop/disappear/corrupt badly altogether?
I'm no expert but 1 would suggest pc problem and 2 would suggest signal problem.
