Do these things have a practical purpose? I thought maybe they were similar to heavy drones, but they're static.
And they have cheesy ranges for being sentries.
Wishing for better mining ships in a system near you. |

yes, they are worth it.
And the Warden have a range of 50Km + skills optimal, which i dont think to be cheesy at all.

be aware that sentry drones only accept targets which are within drone control range

And have terrible tracking, cruisers are decently hard to hit with them.

I didn't think so originally because they seemed to do little damage to NPC cruisers, then I tried setting them down and heading away from my target so they had to pursue me, in a straight line. That's when I saw the damage they can do, works similarly well if you web your target. Perhaps the tracking is a little poor but if you can get around that using one of the above or different tactics they're very useful.

If you have room for a drone tracking link or 2 they're truely awsome for some missions. With 2 tracking links the gardens can 1 volly destroyers and slow frigates at close range.
