It would be nice to be able to hire NPC pilots to fly my ships as wingmen.
It would also be a good thing to be able to hire NPC pilots to fly Player-run corporation-owned ships in Player-Run Corporation controlled territories on patrol routes.

This is an absolutely fascinating idea. In fact it collides with another NPC idea of mine that I think I'll send in a different post.
But yes, the ability of hiring NPCs (who may be dumb as hell, but at least present 24/7) would be have a tremendous effect on the entire game system. In a good way.

Id like to outfit a small group of npc's in frigits and crusers to see how thy would do agenst npc pirates.

that is more or less what drones are...drones that you could fit modules too would be nice though.
I think the idea of npc wingmen is cool, but as a quick in-between stage upgradable drones is more feasable.

love the idea of being able too hire a wing man 8) could be a brand new skill - fleet control . little guys in cruisers or whatever as allies .they could even start out as basic and kinda dumb but gain experiance as they fight with you . better commands etc .

Well sounds fun. You could outfit them in anyship you want if you supplyed it get you self 2 thorax and some pilots that can use drones and go lag some one near you. Or blow something up.

if this was implemented, then pretty much everyone would have at least a Kestrel flying with them at all times. The number of all active ships would double, causing more lag, and that's just if there is a limit of 1 wingman.
Flying without a wingman would become totally uncompetitive.

I dont have the fastest machine.. only 2.4P4 with 1.5Gb RAM, 128MB Vid Card, RAM, and a cable connection, and I get 0 lag running 2 accounts even in large groups with drones out.
If someone wants to use the feature by all means, but if 1 or 2 extra ships is going to lag a person, then its probably too dangerous an area to be in until the client is upgraded.

Agreed.
With all the payer owned objects coming in, we are going to need to be able to hire NPCs to help secure our investments.
We cannot be on all the time, and need an option to help out a bit |

Hold automated frigates? Probably not, really -- I'd suspect that they'd probably be drone carriers, with carrier-class vessels having both ludicrous amounts of drone space (4,000m^3+?) and bonuses to the number of drones one can fly.

Nice, small but wealthy corps could be able to defend they property now.
And for kestrel as wingmen, does this not create a mixed fleets for what you all crying for?
