What's the difference b/n who shows up on local vs who shows up on the overview? The overview seems range limited--is the local range-limited as well?

I guess my question is who is in "local"--everyone in the same system?
And what is "the same grid" for the overview?
Sorry for the dumb questions, but this stuff is complicated!

In the same system = Shows up in Local, without exception.
A grid is a small section of space, a few hundred kilometers on each side. People in your grid who are cloaked won't show up on your overview, but everybody on your grid who isn't cloaked will show up.

...Overview can also be heavily modifyed... you can add/remove [almost?] everything... so, it will depend on your overview set-up what will be shown,
Not so for local... it is as mentioned above, ppl cannot 'remove' themselves from it... if someones in local, there in the same system as you...

Local is EVERYONE within the same system; whether you are cloaked, docked, floating about, or whatever -- it's everyone.
Who shows up on your overview is anything within the grid you're in. I'm not entirely sure how big this grid is. Sometimes I will spot ships 2,000 KM out, other times they need to be within 500km before I see them. It's weird. But, for the record, the grid is a small (in comparison to the rest of space) radius around your ship in which items of interest will show up on your overview. ___________________________ |

my guess about the size of grid is how big the object is. I have noticed that the bigger it is the earlier it shows up. But indeed it is considering small, the scanner reaches a lot further. But this is before Kali, there are changes comming to scanning in that update

Overview shows nearby things that you have configured it to show. Proper overview setting can be a matter of life and death; for PvP you want it to show hostiles and NOT friendlies, possibly gates, and not rocks, cans, and other litter.
