I just started my EVE trial last week and am having a blast. I think I'm just starting to progress past the "newb ship" phase to the "how the hell do I equip my Tristan" phase, and I was hoping someone could clear up a few basic questions I had:
1. Only way u can pull a certain group is in agent missions, these u just shoot a NPC pirate, and the ones "linked" to that pirate will come over, start flashing yellow (peed off with u), then start flashing red (shooting at you)
2. yes, when u get to tech II drones they start costing up to a couple of million each. :) U soon start to remember. U can add to your overview, and make sure none are present before you warp. unfortunatly, u just have to remember...
3. most NPC will fire 2 damage types, and also a missile damage type. i tend to go for the missile damage type,. as especially in smaller ships u reduce the gun damage by them physically missing you... Always go specific hardeners, across the board ones are good for PVP and against certain NPC that cause all damage types (angels for example)
4. blasters are short range, in for a penny in for a pound, go for antimatter.
Short range u are close range anyway, so go rockets as the DPS is better on rockets than missiles.
As general advice
Always insure your ship, u will lose ships.
Setup as u want, there is no right and no wrong in eve, there are accepted setups granted, but nothing is 100% wrong against NPCs, if it works for you, all is well. Of course listen to advice for ship fittings, but do as u wish...
always have enough isk to replace the ship you are flying + the equipment on it. The old advice, if u cant afford to lose it, dont undock in it. You could have done the mission 200 times before, if u get a lag spike, it can go wrong. Petitions for replacement ships can take weeks, sat on your arse for weeks isnt fun cos u are skint...
