So I just came up with this a little while ago- it isn't a thought-out idea like Project Galileo was, but I feel it could have some merit.
Give Missile launchers the ability to load ammo of one size below their own, in addition to what they already have.
Missile Launchers, back in the day, were able to load any sort of missile into them, provided they had the capacity to hold one. This would partially bring back that functionality, giving missiles a new specialty.
The idea would be to allow:
Small: Rocket Launcher: can load rockets Light Missile Launcher: can load light missiles
Medium: Rapid Light Missile Launcher: can load light missiles Heavy Missile Launcher: can load heavy missiles and light missiles Heavy Assault Missile Launcher: can load heavy assault missiles and rockets
Large: Rapid Heavy Missile Launcher: can load heavy missiles and light missiles Cruise Missile Launcher: can load cruise missiles and heavy missiles Torpedo Launcher: can load torpedoes and heavy assault missiles
Capital: Citadel Cruise Launcher: can load citadel cruise missiles and cruise missiles Citadel Torpedo Launcher: can load citadel torpedoes and torpedoes
To 'explain' the launchers' being able to use smaller ammo, it could be said that they are able to accommodate undersized ammunition to an extent, but not effectively (i.e. the ROF will remain at the rate the launcher already has).
Additionally, you will not be able to put (for example) a Tech II heavy missile into a Cruise Missile Launcher II or a Rage Torpedo into a Citadel Torpedo Launcher:
"The specialized systems required to handle advanced ammunition is not present in launchers of a larger size than the ammunition was designed for"
So tell me what you think
"A City made of Wood is built in the forest;
A City made of Stone is built in the mountains;
But a City made of Dreams...is built in heaven."

I like it for the most part. only issues are when you can start getting several times as many rounds into a launcher as it was intended for. Also, I would move to snowflake bombers to not be able to do this.
Yes, I do incursions. Find out more here

Do you know what I would like?
okee, sorry I am so predictable..
I just thought if we would have missiles that could hurt ships, that would be awesome.

Sooo....i can has HAM bombers?
Tell me why I'd fly hawk over this. As as I read the bonuses on hull I'd say they would cover ham in the torpedo launcher.
MArked dps jump over hawk (used since missile based af) , very nice range bonuses and no decloak delay. What possible go wrong with HAM bombers Some think tier 3 bc's created more problems than they are worth. This imo could make that seem like childs play. |

Except the bonuses are to torpedo ammo and not their launchers so HAM bombers would be an interesting curiosity and little else.

same could be said for lots of other missile ships.
To make this appealing I'd imagine ccp would switch bonus to launcher not ammo. Here is where I may be reading into this too much. Need the bonus to be on the launcher not the ammo. Other wise they wasted coding time for many launchers. Not many would use otherwise.
Mobile depots and carrier refit gives this now. Usually a case though of if things bad enough running weapons ammo not bonused for ship is looking like a way out....sounds like you are pretty much screwed anyway. Laser and projectile rokh in the days before hybrid buff would be exceptions I know to this. I liked them anyway. Myrmidon iirc was in the same situation as I recall, snowball launchers would have been an improvement for it iirc. |

Long ago, in the early history of EVE this was possible. cruise/torps were hideously expensive
R3 rocket launchers held 9 rockets or 3 light missile M12 held 12 lights, 3 heavies or 1 cruise missile. H-50 held 50 light, i forget how many heavies, 3 cruise, 1 torp. S-110 held 110 light missiles, lots of heavies, many cruise and a few torps.
this was long before HAMs, missile "tracking formulas", rapid launchers.
a kestrel with 4 cruise missiles loaded, the ammo cost nearly as much as the hull. Blackbirds/Caracals were armed to the teeth with torps. (which had AoE splash damage).
Ah... the good old days. I for one would love to see that brought back. |
