I hardly think including the 10,000 alts included in the above figure is a particularly honest way to set a record.

They dont report every single time the record is broken... its quite often it happens actually. I think it might get broken this coming weekend again, with the new dragon code hopefully decreasing lag. :)

Most MMOs sport hoards of alts and multiple accounts logged in from the same IP.

And why not? unless those 10k alts are oveur's alts.
The records are not about number of subcriptions, are about having 6 times more toons together than most of the other mmorpgs. we all know that WoW has more subcriptions.

Yes as mentioned here in the dev blog
Originally by: Oveur Many have asked (or will ask), why doesn't CCP test their patches? This is the eternal problem of testing high loads. We can't duplicate the code's native environment (Tranquility), because we have no way to replicate the load of 28k players. We do a lot of testing before we deploy patches and the Dragon code branch, our internal nickname for the code branch, has gone through these phases of testing:
* 2 Months of Alpha testing in China * 1 Month of closed Beta testing in China * 1 Month of open Beta testing in China. Max concurrent users was about 38.000 players. * Deployed for Release in China
Since then, we have further fixed and improved the Dragon code base, which then adds 2 months of internal and public testing on Singularity.
So they are beating us by some way... wonder what the playability is like though with that many Concurrent users :\.
