You can only fit 5 medium drones on a Vexor.
Go for 5 Hammerheads, they (thermal drones) do the most damage. Tech 2 if you have the skills and money.
The thing is that due to how tracking works, medium drones will hit frigs well enough (it's actually logical - A is orbiting B while C is chasing A, C will thus have A in front of him nearly all the time assuming similar speeds).
Note that against, for example, Angel rats you should chose Valkyries (explosive drones) instead due to them having lower resists against those drones. Seing as how you are Gallente, thermal drones (Hobgoblin, Hammerhead or Ogre) will deal the most damage against what you'll find in Gallente space. For 75m¦ the most damaging is indeed 2 heavy 2 med 1 small.

Vexor has 75m^3 drone space ...
about the dmg, you are right I think, you'd get more dmg from a 2 heavy 2 medium 1 light configuration... however..
most people i know use 7 meds 1 light.. and here's why:
first off those heavy drones are relatively VERY slow.. if you use that config of drones your light and med drones will be shooting enemy while heavy drones are lagging behind... they will also have trouble catching up to fast enemies.. so the actual dmg output might be lower...
if you lose a drone you can't use 5 drone anymore .. frell that, get spares .. I personally use 7 med t2 drones, 1 light armour maintenance drone (for repping my drones)..
kinda up to you .. vs BS heavy drones are great so then you would def like that 2 2 1 setup... but against anything else.. i'd say 7 med t2's for the win..
- All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me - Pure drone user... give us a mini carrier and faction Typhoon and Dominix please |

If you go for T2 medium drones, I'd recommend kinetics (vespa II) if in Gallente space. They work almost as well as hammerheads, and they cost a quarter of the price should you lose them.

Ith, the vex has a 75m drone bay.
It depends what you're doing, if you're running level 2's the heavies will have a hard time hitting the vast majority of what you'll be up against. If you're ratting low sec or in 0.0 this might be less of a problem though.

I use hammerheads tech 2. I also like to put a navigation control mod , it makes them go as fast as the small one, very nice to catch Intys by surprise
