Yeah, nice to hear something positive for once, since Iraq and the Middle East Crisis is plaguing the news media

well duh, bad news = good news for those who make news, because people are more interested in bad news.
seriously, what kind of headline would "NOTHIN' REALLY GOING ON RIGHT NOW, IT'S PRETTY PEACEFUL" be as far as getting readers/veiwers? and what would the article involve? yea.

It's great that she's alive and has been reunited with her family but it's still a very disturbing news story.

I think far more people than you appreciate would love to hear positive news for a change- not for the whole programme, maybe one or two items.
We get bombarded with stabbings, shootings, wars, kids killing kids, grannies being raped, paedophiles etc etc etc. This world is a ****hole, and we get to hear of all the nastiness. We need a balance, we need to hear about good stuff happening, about people being kind to other people.

8 years... that's a lot of catching up to do, not only for the relationships but also when it comes to school
As for good/bad news, I'd much rather hear about a scientific breakthrough than a war. War sells better though

I wouldn't class someone being held captive and probably repeatedly abused without anyone finding out for 8 years, and then left with Stockholm syndrome towards her captor as good news.
More the cessation of bad news.
Not neccesairly the same thing as good news...

When I posted the above, it wasn't mentioned she'd been abused. In my naivety, it didn't occur to me.
Now it turns out she had been abused, so I tend to agree with you. However, the fact she has been returned to her family is a *good* thing, as opposed to being killed and dumped somewhere, I'm sure you'd agree --

Any parent will tell you, abused or in good health, hating their captor or loving them, ALIVE is ALWAYS the best news. --- --- --- ---
