I was wondering what peoples opinions were on the Hulk? On paper the insanely inflated price over earlier ships doesn't seem justified. Especially with how how the Shields and Armor are still. Is 15% better Strip mining bonus worth 450mil instead of 20mil for the Covetor?
Considering most mining is still done to jetcans with a hauler then, I can't see it worth spending the money on =\

That doesn't really explain much. Does the Hulk get better yields, or why do you say that? Using either a Covetor or a Hulk you are going to have people killing the rats and guarding you, so does the somewhat better resists really matter?

May I point you to this thread, read the first few posts then skim the rest.. short answer is as stated above, very much so for 0.0 mining, maybe not in 0.9-1 sec systems

Hulk has twice the cargo hold of the covetor so it makes mining much less cumbersome. It can also fit 2 mining upgrades which increases your mining yield even further. Twice the amount of shields compared to the covetor and some damn good stock resistances to boot. Mining in highsec you'd make your 400ml back in a couple weeks.

A Hulk can tank most any 0.0 spawn by itself. A covie can't. Also the Hulk has about 25-30% higher yields iirc. So yes, it is most definatly worth it.

Edited by: Deacon Hasp on 26/08/2006 02:49:24 i just recently got my hulk :) and as far as the shear power that it levels belts is simply amazing
my question is what skills do you need to fit the typical 0.0 hulk tanking kit? I know I need to get my skills up but need to figure where i need to train first to get it all sorted.
High- 3x Strips II
Med- 1x Gistii-A Small Shield Booster 1x Eutectic Cap Recharger 2x NPC Specific Hardeners (T1 NAMED or GIST)
Low- 2x Mining Upgrades

hulk.... i killed two... they always drop gistii boosters
But on a more serious note, if you are mining in 0.0, and mining a lot, it is deffo worth it, since you will make the money back fairly fast, and after that it's just profit...
... Unless you get ganked :p

Except if you buy one now, you could probably make up the different five-fold.

Yeah right now I'm in a 0.1 corp, and theres a lot of pirate activity in the area, so I wouldn't trust buying a Hulk just yet hehe.
Why will the price drop? Because they are releasing more T2 BPOs into the game with Kali?

Mining 0.0 in a hulk is regarded as one of the best ways to make ISK if you're in a corp that will buy the mins from you.

from what I understand is that you can reverse engineer an item to make a limited run bpc from it

If you're a carebear in need of empire minerals, a hulk is also the way to go.
I use mine on a x.account to mine in windows mode in a .5 (true sec status .4something) system.
With 2 local expanders you can get over 12000m3, so it becomes it's own hauler.
Also with instants, the work load is minimal.
The way I figure it, this adds a few mil isk per hour to your total, so figure about 10 mil isk a play session or 20 mil isk if you're online seriously.
Given the rise in trit prices, recently it makes ISK hand over fist too.
Next, if you're mining omber in deadspace missions, the hulk makes about 1.4 mil ISK a run, every 15 minutes, with zero work.
So, 0.0 or empire carebear, the hulk is very worth it! |

nononono, no amp on a hulk, no pds, no nothing.
3 strip2, eutetic cap, gist a-type, 1 faction hardener, 1 t2 hardener, 2 mining upgrades (you need lvl2 mining upgrades, or was it lvl3? ofc that's with my max cap skills and lvl4 shield skills). 5 harvies, 5 light drones. (or t1/t2 drones, my t1 mining drones get 2 crok units per cycle each, but you need drone interfacing lvl5 for that. Harvies suck 4 units)
The whole point of this setup is: * It's a roid ganking setup * It tanks indefinitely, so no micromanagment (so you can go amazingly drunk so the mining can be ufferable)
So what can it tank? the larger the spawn the better, hulk tank is heavily dependent on it's signature radius, so the big spawns that shoot torps are laughable for you. Smaller spawns may proove a problem though, and cruisers/bc's can start breaking your tank steadily. If you're loosing your tank, start orbiting you can @1km, that helps a bit with both missile and gun rats.
I've been tanking guristas with my hulk, and my experience is: You can tank the higher triple 1.4m bs spawns + 1-2 cruisers and your shield will never go below 97%, but 3 bc's and 2 cruisers or a few cruisers and destroyers will spank you HARD. The good part is that you can kill those smaller spawns with your 5 light drones before they force you to warp out. Just take out the friggies first and that's more than 50% less damage on you and you can take it easy with the rest of the spawn (dunno i you can take on bc's with lights without drone interfacing 5).
I don't know much about the rest of the rats, but they should be about the same, I think those nos'ing rats may be a problem though. The jamming guristas rats you just kill off.
Is that amp setup for the angel rats by any chance?
Anyway, with a hulk 0.0 mining becomes hardcore and EXTREMILY easy, no more "watch out, rats, warpin/warpout. You sit the, rats come in, you go "meh". You move around and don't care about a thing, your only problem is local, nothing else. Ofc, problems are introduced when a non-hulk joins the club, since you now have to start taking "who's tanking?" into consideration. And that's why I believe hulk mining ops don't want other non-hulks into their group, it just complicates stuff for no reasn.
Oh, and 450 is well below of what I'd pay for one, I guess if I'm willing to pay up to 1b for one, hardcore miners would easily go up to 2b per ship. The reason it's not up to those prices is that probably there aren't enough of those types in the game.

Wrong that will be later.Right now will be getting a t1 BPC of the item and trying to turn it into a t2 BPC.
