Watching a YouTube video and this guy was using a 3rd party kill-board to research his targets before committing to attack. Sounds cool, in game browser and all that, could be useful in many other ways. But my question is do I have to laboriously write the character's name in the search box, especially in the heat of something, or can I copy/paste straight out of local into the search box. I've tried it, but my right click doesn't give me any copy/paste abilities. Probably missing something real simple, but I do that a lot. |

Drag and drop them from local into chat, this will make a link to their character profile that you can then copy and paste. Be aware there will be a space padded on either end of the link so make sure you at least remove the leading space.

I haven't tried it, but i think if you click on their name in local chat and hit Ctrl+C, it copies that name to your clipboard. From there, paste into Zkillboard. It should work.

There is a 3rd party program that scans names from local and makes an automated cross-reference search from killboards but I'm not sure if that program is entirely legal due it's automatic local scanning features. |

Some such apps are triggered by copies (CTRL C) to clipboard, and are thus legal, as they don't interact with the client directly.
They can only access what what CCP allows to be copied, and it is one-way export out of the client.
Example: Pirate's Little Helper (PLH)
Of course, CCP could change their minds on what is and isn't legal. When in doubt, petition a GM and ask, leave the GM response EVE-mail in your in-game mailbox forever, and save the GM response EVE-mail outside of the game client, in case you need to access it for a defense if your account gets banned. |

Thanks for the comeback all, and yes, I should've known that. Ctl C, something I used to use in the command line (DOS) days, but then Win 95 came along and I got lazy. Thanks again, fly safe (Unless your shooting at me!) and have fun. |

The basic Windows shortcuts of Ctrl+A (select all) Ctrl+C (copy) and Ctrl+V (paste) can be used in a lot of the EVE interface elements, not just for checking tools.
Many people know the trick of placing the cursor over the list of names in local and pressing Ctrl+A. All the names will be highlighted, then as a new pilot enters the system you will immediately notice the only non-highlighted name. You can also use Ctrl+A to select all elements in some of the windows that don't have a right click "select all" option. There are many others.

No, did not know that little trick. Up till now all I could see was the Local list sort of moved around when pilots were either arriving or just passing thru. Thanks for the tip.

This is a handy dandy tool to use when roaming if local is a bit crowded, instead of clicking show info on all pilots to get an idea of who is allied with whom, just copy paste everyone in local, click parse, then show pilot info on the bottom and voila: you know who is in what corp and which corp is in what alliance. Great when roaming solo so you can get a good idea if your target will have back up.
Use those shortcuts quickly and you have your intel in less than 20 seconds.
