Cyndrogen Angels Of Life 629	Posted - 2014.11.09 00:20:59 - [1] - Quote When I started playing eve online I didn't really understand lowsec mechanics or nullsec etc. I remember I was only two months old, I flew to TAMA to deliver robotics to a very high buy order. There is a reason the buy order was so high. I jumped into system, was almost insta locked, webbed, scrammed and after two volleys my ship suddenly upgraded to a pod! Cool! Immediately after I saw a bright flash of light and was kindly teleported back to highsec. Snigwaffe, never heard of them before venturing to Tama. That was 5 years ago, since then I have lived in lowsec, ran mission, ratted and even managed a POS for a period of time. I went into a rage over losing a hauler ship, a badger. LOL. The people in Jita felt bad and gave me a little ISK to cover my loss. So funny to think about it now. What was your trip to lowsec like the first time you ventured into the wild?

Loved it instantly and decided to move to lowsec. So I moved to Siseide when it was regularly camped. Was smashed for a couple of weeks before thinking that maybe GalCal space would be better. Still knowing nothing, I moved to Old Man Star. At least I was good food for Soul Takers. Seems to have worked out ok though. I still love it just as much as I did that first pvp experience and have met some of the nicest people I've ever met, through random encounters and fights. Come Win At Eve - Join The Vendunari

When I came back through the second time I got caught in a camp. I wasn't so much mad as perplexed. We got blown up in that area ratting a little later and that was when I learned my lesson. I spent some time figuring out how to move around "bad" space and practicing after that. Lived in a wormhole for a while, did a bunch of PvP in low-sec (I'm a terrible pirate), used to rat in Syndicate and Great Wildlands... Now I day-trip wormholes from low-sec because it's fun and fairly lucrative for my limited play time. CCP has no sense of humour.
Abrazzar Vardaugas Family 5102	Posted - 2014.11.09 00:37:27 - [5] - Quote First time I went into low-sec I was invited to a corp in Minmatar space and had to go to there from Amarr. autopilot default setting lead me through low-sec. So I loaded my trusty tormentor with all my stuff to move down there to the corp and first jump into low-sec, I got popped and podded before I even knew what was happening. I was a bit shocked at what just happened, but my new CEO helped me out with replacing implants and telling me where to set up a saver route. Another time I intentionally went into low-sec to mine Jaspet in a cloaking Exequror just to learn how to interpret directional scan results and try to survive. I survived, strange enough and had some fun watching people rat in the belts unaware that I was mining there, sitting cloaked in between the rocks, just far enough away for the cloak to work. Only close call was a raven that dropped right on top of me, just as I entered warp after I got startled by a noob-ship catching me visible in the belt. It's all a matter of what you plan to do and where you go. At worst it's a learning experience, at best it's fun. Just don't take your survival for granted. Never did find anyone. Spent a lot of time in there repairing sec status (no tag option at that time), it was in that period I realised just how quiet the place really is once you get 2+ jumps from high sec.

I remember being intensely nervous but can't remember why I went there. Probably a market order. I remember my first visit on this character for PvP - I podded someone! About two months later, they started to organize lowsec roams. Right from the start I was asked to bring a battlecruiser. Back then, this was still a pretty big deal. Due to my very restricted playtime I wasn't exactly drowning in isk. When we finally formed the fleet in the first lowsec system, I found myself surrounded by -10s and I was the only one with a sec status above -5 . Over time I took that Harbinger on half a dozen lowsec roams and a couple of wormhole evictions with those guys and it is still sitting in my hangar. During our adventures I only got podded once. The members of this laid back highsec indy alliance turned out to live all over the place in lowsec, nullsec and whs. I know, I was incredibly lucky back then. Remove insurance. This thread is the reason, why CCP should stop advertising any aspect of EVE PvE

Well your story sounds a lot like some newbs from old corp, evem the ratting part in GW. :) Anyway we had told some newbs a million times about not using the autopilot when we joined FW and even had it in corp mail and in MOTD with huge letters saying avoid Kamela and what do you know the next day kill board had someone's 'hooker, booze & junk badger' worth all of his EVE possessions blown up and a sad newb bawling for his lost 'fortune' on the corp chat. Migth add that back in the day you had to manually check if there was low sec system in between, none of this 'see immediately red on route' mollycoddling we have today.

I forget how or why I was even there, but 2~3 of us got in our ventures and starting mining. It was semi okay, but I eventually just tried killing a rat with an incursus (it killed a venture or two), which I couldn't. Someone also lost a ship to some warpin. I was able to compensate that shortly after with killing a Comet with my Triple-Neut "Doomsday" Tristan. Before that I brought a ceptor into structure with a battle Heron before I was killed by his buddy in a wormhole ...because I ejected the wrong drones. I never touched my lvl4 Raven again since then. I'm my own NPC alt.

My first time was with a hauler as well, but with some crappy fit I used for mining. I had just invented AFK-mining (at least, it felt like I invented it), flying in a Bestower with a T1 miner during moments I would be AFK for at least an hour. I thought to myself: Lower security means more expensive and more ores, let's see how low I can go! At that point I had no idea there was something called high-sec, low-sec or even null-sec and I had no idea what the consequences were so I went for it. Before I knew it I was being chased by some pirates. Smart as I was I just thought to myself: ruuuuuun! And so I did, but ofcourse, after jumping to the next system called Sahda (still low-sec), they caught up on me, got a point and asked me to pay like 5 million ISK or else I would loose my ship. Tough as I was (I was flying a Besty after all, it doesn't get much tougher than that!) I rejected their 'offer' thinking I still had a chance to escape (we were still at the gate after all). Apparently they didn't take no for an answer and all of a sudden I saw some fireworks and my Besty was a goner. I somehow did manage to get my pod out though. I also recently learned about hauling some stuff to make some easy money. So to cover my loss I thought to myself 'well why not make a couple of hauls with a new Besty, so I can get enough money to buy another Besty in case this one is also destroyed.'. And so I did, bought 5k Mechanical Parts and hauled them to a station not too far away from my location. I had to go through low-sec but I still had no idea that there was a difference between high, low and null-sec. So I went for it, and before I knew it I was in Naguton (which apparently lies next to Sahda) and guess who I found there... The exact same pirates that killed me only 39 minutes ago. This time they weren't going to give me an offer though. They destroyed my new Besty, and this time I couldn't get away in my pod either. That's when I rage-quit EVE for a loooong time. Of course it was a good portion of my isk at the time so I picked up a condor that the tutorials left me so I would have a fighting chance if nasty pirates would harass me (lol). I undocked and set a course for the station. Nothing happened and I headed back home. Nothing happened that time either. Some months later I was doing some exploration in my drake in a remote area of Amarr space. One of them escalated into lowsec a few jumps deep so I picked a quiet time of the day and headed in. I fit a small neut instead of the probe laucher for marginal protection if a frigate would appear (lol again) and got to the escalation safe. I kept spamming d-scan and when the combat probes appeared I started aligning to the return gate, only to notice a scrambler rat had gotten close. Luckily the prober wasn't too good at the probes so I managed to get rid of the rat and slip away. At the high sec gate a tengu landed at the gate just at the time I was jumping to safety. I guess I have been lucky. This post was rated "C" for capsuleer.

Only problem was I was in a Caldari starter system and corp was located in Gallente Placid highsec. This was a prime example where ignorance is bliss, since i selected "Prefer shorter" which took me through 8 jumps of Black Rise lowsec, entry lowsec system being Tama... I even made 3 trips back and forth and didn't get blown up hilariously. I was in my Mammoth. Bob must have been watching over me that day. Then again it wouldn't be EVE unless you learn the hard way, which I did a month later when taking 2 jumps into quiet Placid lowsec to buy some PI stuff and getting blown up on my way back out. My first Low Sec trips had haulers, frigates and a BattleCruiser in a station in low sec where I had standings. It was never my plan to just go there, do an EVE bucket list, check mark and head back to high sec to actually accomplish something. I planned to stay and belt rat, try to mine a bit. I didn't really care that most of the ore was 'low ISK' or that the rats weren't really any better in the long term. It was just something to try. I spent a week or so of docked or aligned to evade the harassment and unable to fight or loot, was able to see that it was NPE bait trap, put all my stuff in haulers and moved it back to high sec. I saw it as just another grand illusion in the game of EVE Online.

One mission sent me to Bosena, a bunch of yahoos appeared in the mission and sensor damped me. I was miles from the pocket gate, got away, completed the mission later. Noticed the belt rats were big and had fat bounties. Busy killing a Cynabal flying belt rat one day, thinking 'this is the biggest thing i've killed so far' when a sentinel decloaks and violences my thrasher. Pilot gave me some money. Dodging gatecamps in Heild, missions in 0.1 systems, then solo mining B-VIP9 in a Burst for crying out loud. The pipe from Teonusude to GW null was my first playground and a tough teacher. Goggles. Making me look good. Making you look good.

So I'm sitting there drilling away at some jaspet, and a ship shows up on grid, so I hit warp and wave at him cheekily. Until I plowed nose-first into the rock I was mining... again.... and again.... and again... until the Ferox boated over to me and blew me to pieces. Pod got out though, and he gave me the useful tip of 'Keep enough distance between yourself and the roids so you can warp away" And... Over the next month spent more time in low, been living there ever since.

We roamed around with no real rhyme or reason looking for something human to shoot at. We found a buzzard decloaked on a gate who was afk (this was back when you had to warp to a bookmark to get to gates at 0). So my friend starts shooting it, loses his omen to gate guns solely and I finish the buzzard off in my thorax. About 30 minutes later we both start getting hatemail from the buzzard we killed saying things like 'You noobs are dead, I know mercs, you'll regret ever kiling me'. About a week later the buzzard's mercs wardec us and warn us that we are not safe anywhere and should stay docked up the entirety of the war. So the war starts and one day we notice about 4 war targets in local. My buddy and I, accompanied by another friend who had started playing a few weeks ago, undock and warp straight to the gate we assumed the mercs came from. We blew up a recon and a bomber at the gate then warped to our station in system. One more bomber followed us there and before we could point him he warped to a can that was 300 km off station. We warped there and killed him too. We docked up victorious and proceeded to talk massive amounts of sh!t in local about how we were brand new to the game and just beat all them. So the main merc guy brings back a raven and kills all of us. Not today spaghetti.

My very 1st loss was a Rifter to a Brutix in low sec, and the guy gave me my stuff back and some isk and some advice. Chief amongst the advice was "your ship is a tool, not your home". I've lived by that for 7 years.

I took a mission in low sec where you have to destroy a large structure to finish. Sure enough someone scanned me down before I could manage it. First the scanning ship briefly appeared, then came the wolf. luckily it was just one. I was in a Cyclone which defended itself, the wolf warped out. Continued to destroy the structure, the wolf appeared again 10 minutes later, just as the structure was destroyed. The Cyclone fought it off again In total battling with this wolf for about 20 mins Docked back in high sec with a looted ded space mwd from the mission. I liked the area, lots of targets and small gang stuff, so I decided to dicth my corp and team up with the locals who (apparently) liked my style. After around 2 years working with that low sec corp (and becoming a director) we were assimilated into TunDraGon, and now I'm a director in TDG as well. Been in lowsec since 2011, then. Oh but a few times before that I had gone into lowsec for that one battleground salvaging mission that sent you like 12 jumps into low. Never had a problem with that mission or gotten camped. Also think I lost a ferox to an ishtar in a low sec mission. I hopped in my trusty slasher and flew all the way to fountain, only seeing 1 ship on the way. After finding a station out there and not being able to dock (and not knowing why) I decided to fly back to high sec. After many jumps, I hit warp to the last gate before highsec, and upon landing, appeared in a new clone in station. I later learned that I was killed by a smartbomb, and I wanted to try out these modules for myself.

I do remember staying in hisec for most of the first two months because it was more suitable to learn basic mechanics on your own. Might have welped a few frigates just to see what it was like. I remember doing a courier contract for the guy that got me into the game as a practice run on day three. Went pretty well actually, it took me jumping into a bubbled gate as I got the hang of bouncing around pretty quick. Not much lost on a few days old character. I decided I wanted to go the PVP route so I chose exploration/missions as early ISK makers. I'm a webdeveloper so hacking appealed to me, and I figured doing PVE combat would at least push me towards combat oriented ships. A wise choice in retrospect, as covops let you explore lowsec with near impunity and combat skills let you run the harder sites. I couldn't find a proper corp for me so I started my own way to early. Still got through all the bad weather though. But also joined another corp just to see what lowsec was really like. Gave me some insight and a more clear idea what I wanted to do in the future. After that alliance fell apart I rebooted UICON, planted a flag in lowsec, and gathered an excellent crew of guys to fly with. Tried nullsec, didn't appeal to me, tried wspace, had lots of fun, but decided lowsec is my preferred combat environment and went back. Planted another flag and been a happy capsuleer ever since!

In fact if you didn't have anything worth popping or taking, real pirates didn't bother. They didn't want noobs getting angry and quitting. They wanted the noobs to stay in the game and come back later with something more valuable to take away or ransom (and honor said ransom). By this time they were no longer noobs anyway and knew better. And this was BEFORE warp-to-zero. Several times through Amamake in a capsule, no death even. And now... well the kind of players that inhabit lowsec have managed to defeat the game. They have won. They should be congratulated on their epic leetness by leaving it all to them and not bothering to trespass in it while they play something else and waiting to be batphoned to gank that one occasional noob who was not previously made aware of all that leetness but probably won't stick around anyway. Bring back DEEEEP Space!
