Theres a lot of things I dont like about Everquest. That's why I left it. But one of the things I will exceedingly miss is being able to set myself as afk. There was also the ability to set a reason for afk. Ok this isnt EQ but it would sure be a useful tool for Eve also. One thing EQ actually did well.

i agree and I also think that you should be able to set yourself AFK and this makes you invulnerable. Sometimes emergancies arise where you just dont have time to warp to a safe spot and log out properly.
Now before all you naysayers start saying "EXPLOITABLE"!...hear me out.
you CANT afk once targeted or otherwise engaged and when you turn the AFK message off, anyone near you sees the message disappear and knows you are preparing to leave AFK status but there is a 2 minute delay for you before you can move or activate any weapons or modules. This prevents you from having the upper hand thru a sneak attack.
thoughts?

Why not just log out when you go away from the computer. This would be a lot simpler, or land at a station... It only takes about 30 seconds top to log back on, dont be so lazy lol |

Well i think its a great idea. You can afk mine and as a matter of courtesy have an afk message for anyone who wonders why you arent answering them. Most people dont want to completely log off when they have a person at door or something. or an important phone call they have to concentrate on. Some people even play at work. Its certaily not a matter of laziness. An afk button would be a major asset.

It *is* a matter of laziness. Nothing wrong with that, though... I like the idea
Would be good for people playing at work, too. Particularly if using the afk-button sent an instant message to their boss saying "fire this bozo, he's stealing from your company."

So let me get this right. You want to be able to AFK safely. This would be a good idea as my familiy often need me at very short notice, However if the feature was enabled it should act as a pause i.e. Once activated you cant be touched but also you cant do anything otherwise you will end up with the exact thing someone already mentioned which is ppl exploiting it to afk mine.
Good idea but would only work if this were the case.

Good Idea, another way to deal with it is for anyone caught AFK mining to have their account disabled.
God I loath people who "play" an Online game, then leave things working.. if your playing PLAY, if not.. leave us in peace. Your just sucking up server space which real players could utilise.
Still, if I see someone "afk mining", I'll make sure they have no ship to come back to :) - The Cleansing has begun.
