Okay, so here's the story. I'm in low sec.. I undock in my ferox. I think to myself "hmmm, a few people in local I wonder if anyone is over at this belt to ransom."
And sure enough.. while warping I scan and see a hawk there and think nice nice, ransom time! So I get ready for the fight just as I warp in to the belt the guy is killing 2 frigate NPC's. and he's 30km out. I start the afterburner up and start my approach, hoping this guy doesn't warp out before 20km and I can scramble his ass. so I get to about 25km and start my lock and scramble at the 20km.. even closer yet, I nos and web him and kill his shields and armour and get my drones to go kill the lil rats he is shooting (you know.. being the nice guy I am and all...). So then I open convo and say "14mil or the ship goes pop.. send within 10seconds." So I watch my wallet and he goes.. "hmmm, can't afford it" So I pop his ass then warp off.. Now at this point I'm thinking, hmm.. I only got the security hit for the agro. and I noticed him become flagged to me while I was just holding him down and in convo.
Then it hits me! HEY! Why hasn't he got kill rights on me?! why don't I have the .2 security hit?! but get the agro and the npc security change. Hold the phone.... He stole from the can that belonged to the rat I shot lol.
So I get his t2 loot... and don't have the security hit or the killrights on me.
YARRR!

You were afriad of the sec drop from a ship aggression? That's not a big drop compared to a pod...funny story though.

nope, i wasn't worried about a security drop at all. I just wondered why I didn't get one after the ship exploded.

Question though, if you scramed and webbed him 20km out, how did he steal from a can that your drones didn't kill until he was at armor? Did you send your drones kill the rats before you aggrod?

well, I got the security hit for agroing against him which was my initial scrambling him at 20km. Then I moved in and once at 10-11km I started the nos and web. Somewhere between the scrambling etc.. I had sent my drones to kill a frig that was like 2km from him. So what had happend was.. my drones had kill the frigs before I had killed him. and I recalled my drones and while I was trying to ransom him, he had picked loot out of the can from the frig my drones killed. Meaning he was then flagged to me. So I killed him without having to worry about a further sec hit for the ship destruction.

Ah, ok...it's 3:30 in the morning and I forgot there's 3 chances of lowering your sec status in a encounter. Aggro, Ship Destruction, and Pod Kill.
Anyway, I'll share funny story. I was in my Wolf in a random .4 system somewhere in the Heim region. I head to the center of the system that was in range of about 90% of the belts and planets and whatnot and hit my scanner. What do I see? A Caracal. Now at that time, I just barely entered the world of surprise pvp, so my expierence with pvp was only gained from mission running. So I narrowed him down and found him ratting in a belt. I was feeling lucky at the time and warped in at 60. Lo and behold I see him and he sees me, so he warps off towards a gate. I was only -0.1 then, so being by the gate, I felt safe.(Knowing what I know now, that's a bad thought to have)
Anyway I drop out of warp and lock onto him. Who knows, maybe he'll shoot at me? Well he auto-locks me and I suddenly find myself being hit with missiles. He appearently had his guns on stand-by when I locked him...who would have guessed?
Anyway, about 3 seconds later the sentries tear him a new one and I loot from his can with his pod watching. He yelled at me in local for expoliting a game bug or something like that...I wasn't paying attention cause I was rolling on the floor, dieing from laughter.

im pretty sure he didnt get kill rights becos he shot back

If he fired back at you you wouldn't get kill rights or the sec drop for killing the ship... Am I rite?

thats how i understand it yes.
couple of times i have shot people in low sec, whenever they return fire they dont get kill rights and i dot take a big sec hit
