Stopped using these sites a long time ago. Got fed up of being told games would work, buying them, and finding they won't work. ________________________________________________

Or vice versa.
Oblivion says it needs something nuts like a 2Ghz processor and a 6800 graphics card, but with a bit of tweaking I got it to run on a 667mhz P3 with a TI200.

I took a different approach and built a high-end PC with more than enough everything, so I don't bother checking the requirements, just install, whack up to max and tone down if it's jerky. Doom 3 though...I think that gave everyone pause :D To this day is there a machine capable of >30-40 FPS on that game with everything on max? Rubbish game anyway, stopped playing after Beta labs and uninstalled. -------------

Keep in mind, that if your PC meets the minimum requirements for a game, it will run at "minimum" performance.
Always aim for the recommended system requirements or higher for better performance and fps

Please define - tweaking, as i am thinking about buying Oblivion (yes, i know i'm behind the times) but i am concerned by old Geforce4 wont be up to the job, and changing gfx card isn't an option at the mo!

No card that can't handle Pixel Shader 2.0 can run the game as it ships.
However, a patch called oldblivion can fix that.
In addition, on a slow processor, you can use Oldblivion for various hacks. For example, it has an option to enable and disable dynamic lighting at various FPS levels. If you set the FPS where it is enabled to some obscenely high number, dynamic lighting will go off permanently. This makes the game look no better than Morrowind, but on the other hand, you can play it. The 667mhz computer I was testing on got up to nearly 80 FPS in a cave with dynamic lighting off (it was still down to 10-15 FPS outside though).
There are a couple spells and things that don't work perfectly with Oldblivion: what it does is patch the shaders to remove PS2.0 shaders and use PS1.0 instead. But mostly, it works fine. Its playable.
